Quest still works

I just finished the quest. The biggest problem was getting the faction to start it. You need to be an Ally which means killing HUNDREDS of poachers or gnolls.
I came upon the quest when I looted the Essence of the gale while finishing my Nec 1.0 epic. It took three days of killing poachers to get faction. The other three mobs were farly easy for a 69 Druid. The Fire Giant Niedar has a few friends that resisted root, but DOT's and a heal or two they were dead. I really have no use for it but may give to a guildie or just sell in the BAZ.

Good luck to those who take this on.

PS...
the poachers drop a lot of defiant armor

Sold my second one in the bazaar. It probably took a year, I've had it on my trader a long time. This one was 16K.

FAction Fixed
# Oct 18 2004 at 11:38 AM Rating: Default
I was under the impression that this quest is currently broken - I.e. farming faction is broken atm.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Can anyone recommend a place I can go to get an acceptable answer to this question. Spending hours in Jaggedpine is not the best use of my time if the faction isnt going to move.

As near as I was able to determine, this is not broken. Killing the pirates is pretty slow business, but I also found that killing the dogs in Blackburrow helped me through to ally in JaggedPine Folk faction..

The key faction here is the Jaggedpine Folk faction...don't kill ANYTHING that doesn't boost that faction. Ally is a long way to go.

Faction for turn in
# Jan 05 2004 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
I got my last item in the Plane of Sky and went for the turn in. Arg! My faction was only amiable. Durn it, now I have to kill gnolls or named poachers. Or the sily letter quest. I hear the Poacher quest gives great faction.
RE: Faction for turn in
# Feb 27 2004 at 6:01 AM Rating: Decent
Poacher head quest is a great one for faction. I am a Karana paladin and I've done the Crown of the Tempest Guard Quest on Tunare.

When I started faction farming there; I amiable, almost 4 straight days of farming. Poachers, gnolls, poachers' head quest, and gnoll teeth did I get to ally.

Its just a long slow process to get ally there. These quests are worth it. Its also fun having a crown that almost no one has, I'd say maybe 4-5 people on tunare has this karana crown.

Stacks with???
# Jan 03 2004 at 8:49 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone know if this is castable on another person/pet, other than just self-only I mean?

Also, what does it stack with or doesn't stack with? chloro, regen, fungi, etc.?

Thanks,

The thing...
# Nov 09 2003 at 4:11 AM Rating: Decent
The thing most of you are missing is that the click effect will poof the minute you take that 1 point of damage absorb. It's a 1 point rune with HP regen tacked on.

So you click it, regen away, then some mob bops you and it's gone.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 07 2003 at 2:05 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 8hp regen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dood!!!!!!!!! deal with everthing else!!!!!!!!!! absorb damage is basically extra hp's, but they're hidden. in down time this would rock no end. and if it stacks with fungi...OMFG!!

I think I'm gonna say what everyone else is saying and state that you may infact be the most retarded person we have ever encountered on these boards. Tvarn...He was stating that the effect disappears as soon as you take ANY damage...1 point and up...so that "DOOD!!!...UBER REGEN!!!" will disappear if you get hit at all...melee/ spells..traps...doesnt matter. So it's a downtime item. Not a "let me slap this on my newbie alts while I plvl them"...In fact I think it's even self only.

You can target others and buff them with this rune/regen spell.

Regen overwrites/blocks this buff.

(Repost from below, sorry, put it in the wrong place lol)

There's an issue about taking hits to the Plane of Sky faction for killing the Gale Weaver. No worries, this is now a thing of the past..Sony fixed this issue.

As for the effect, hey, its not going to replace regrowth, or, especially, Replenishment which I have become so fond of.
However, when it comes down to being OOM, either in solo or group action, or want a pet that you're charm kiting with to have just a little more durablity, 8HP regen and 1 damage absorb really isn't going to change the world, but it'll give an edge.

Plus, hey, noobs love chrolo! Til ya get some AA points and focus behind it though, you're not going to be seeing your chrolo last beyond 15minute, while group chrolo lasts even less (10 minutes on the nose). Now, this is truly comparable to chrolo. Let's see: its only 8regen, as opposed to chrolo's 10, but, hey, who cares? If a noob would get hit, say, once every 3 seconds (A mob delay of 30, rather average), it'll give +2hp per tick (by preventing 2 damage every 6 seconds), leveling it with chrolo. Now, that's for noobs. If you're talking midranged, where mobs will most likely hit more often, due to decreased delays, double attacks, duel wields, and special melee hits (ie, kick, bash, monk moves, hit backs with rospont {yeah, I know, my spelling on that was horrid}, and so forth), they're bound to hit more than twice every 6 seconds, giving this spell edges on chrolo in both duration and effectiveness.
During downtime, its going to be 2hp less per tick. Sorry, I believe its a good trade off, but its not unargueably better. Hopefully the extra damage saved from the fight will counteract or even out-act this effect.

In any case, right click it while standing still for 6 seconds, make a noob happy for 20 minutes.

Great Shield
# Jun 09 2003 at 12:23 PM Rating: Decent
I don't doubt there are arguments about this shield vs. the Shield of Bane Warding for pure stats, but the effect on this shield is extremely handy for a druid. I use it on Kane Bayle all the time.

If you quad or charm kite (druids--lol) you get smacked occasionally and your pet has down time. Mana-free click and you and your pet on on the road to recovery. . . you while your pet is beating on your pull.

I've also had occasion to use this in group after a hard, mana-draining pull. In all great item and well worth the 10k listed here.

Just killed him tonight. No faction hits. We were up there getting ranger epic bits...he is on the same isle. Mob was a breeze after doing the multi-spawn mobs for the ranger epic.
The isle is non-KOS, but mobs will assist each other.

It was the case at the start, when this quest came out that you lost faction with the Inhabitants of Sky.

Quote:
[Tue Aug 13 22:06:59 2002] The Gale Caller has been slain by Junker!
[Tue Aug 13 22:06:59 2002] Your faction standing with Inhabitants Of Sky got worse.
[Tue Aug 13 22:06:59 2002] You gain party experience!!

But it would appear SoE have fixed this particular bug since then.

If you have a velious BP, theres not much point in doing this quest. This is only useful for downtime unless you're that good at kiting that you never get hit. Sure the stats are decent but go to the grey and get a bone braced buckler 25ac 10 str/wis 55 hps/mana which is better than this shield and much easier to obtain.

From what I've read the effect doesn't stack with Regrowth, which makes this a non-issue at higher levels. Can't imagine anyone lugging this around for the limited use it may get once they get Regrowth.

For this to be really useful I would have put a low cast stun/dd, maybe a toned down version of Fury of Air. That way Tunare worshippers could have their root necklace and we would have a stun shield. Appropriate for a Karana worshipper ;)

the helpful part of this effect is probibly seen most while soloing . when i do mess up and get hit regrowth cost me mana that i have to med back . to be able to have 4000 hps over 500 ticks mana free would be greatly helpful.

in my estimation thats added 8 hps per tick? ..correct me if im wrong .

to have the regen ..and the stats which are nice ..even if not quite UBAH ..this would make a very nice replacemant for the items many mid to high lvl toons are using right now .

i may be the only one who thinks so but when not in group with time to med for regen spells ,this would help me in at the very least those two ways ..regen/decent stats..

but ther are many items that would be a bit better for me than what i am using atm ..heirophants crook..so dont think that was my point ..

this item seems to me to be being a bit under rated by the players on this page.

thats only what i think , and not any thing that i know for fact .

so dont get upset at me ..just thowing another point of veiw at ya

I got my Testament when I was 20 or so, and that has +10 wis, +20 mana....so essentially this is a pretty PitA quest for 25 AC, +10 CR, +10 STA and +10 mana.

Don't get me wrong, those things are nice and all, but I would have liked to se a bit more WIS and/or mana on the shield, or maybe just have it have a right clicky effect of Regrowth or Protection.

Am I just grumpy? Is this upgrade worth it, considering I already have +10 WIS, +20 mana in my secondary slot?
RE: Seems nice, but....
# Apr 30 2003 at 7:59 AM Rating: Default
it's definately worth to have it, after a long close fight you can rightclick it to cast regen on tanks without spending mana and med up. Saves casting chloro/regen/regrowth or healing. Another beneficial thing is that regens in general keep tanks/melees happy but also confront with downtime. Cause they are ready to kill again after they are full health while you might be back to 40m. With regen they are just waiting and meanwhile without spending mana they get healed and when fm you can always heal that severely hurt tank and make the team ready to roll again. (And you can switch back to the item you consider better suited for the upcoming fight)

Not to knit-pick, but the Testament is +10 wis, +10 mana. And secondly having 10 stam, and a mana-less regen at hand is always handy. My def is tapped for a reason, heh. Would love to have it just to have it.
RE: Seems nice, but....
# Aug 26 2002 at 1:28 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, this is much nicer than ToV. However, you have to consider the difficulty obtain this item. By the time you can get this item, you can get your hands on other nicer items than ToV as well, such as bone handled scimitar, bone braced buckler, Pearl Kedge Totem, etc.

I still see a lot of druids (20+) using ToV as a secondary item. And I am talking from a PvP server where SBS is prferred. I would say ToV is a nice item for the lower level druids who aren't twinked to the teeth.

Just a note the Bone Handled Scimitar is a primary item while this is secondary so you could use both. Also while i would definately like to have a pearl kedge totem they are quite rare and is an exclusively wisdom item while this has many other pluses granted i'm sure there are nicer items out there but there has to be some variety. I'd take one of these anyday to replace my Crystal Chitin shield even at the loss of 10 mana. Clickable effect is great and is probably quite a unique item. Will have to get a few people together sometime to get a few of the quest items as soon as i have ally faction.

I understand that a lot of the karana following druids were upset that the tunare followers got the warden symbol of tunare and the guants of earthcrafting. But this shield rocks and I wish there was an equivalent for tunare followers. I love the orb of the infinite void look, but the orb is hard to get and stats are not as good. Guess I am stuck with my crystal chitin shield for now :/

As a Karana druid it is nice to finally have a decent item. However, the fact remains that there is still nothing for Karana druids that is equivalent to the warden symbol. For now though, I think this will do nicely.

As for this vs. the shield of bane warding metioned above, of course that shield is better and therefore has a quest that must be done at a higher lvl.

I am in complete accord with you. The Warden Symbol of Tunare is an easy quest to complete, on the order of magnitude of quests which high level characters sometimes undertake just to amuse themselves. The difference is that the ultimate reward of such quests are usually banked and/or deleted, while the Warden Symbol of Tunare is the only clickable root effect in the game (as far as I'm aware). There are level 65's who carry it in their bags so they can equip it for the times when they really need the free root.

That is amazing when you consider that the Symbol requires that a druid be about level 35 to obtain it. It is truly an item whose fundamental value never depreciates as its owner grows more powerful.

Karana worshipers have no corollary item, a lack I have long lamented. =(

A couple of things about this shield.
1. It's tradable - though I see this changing, as everything else in the quest is no-drop, but I'm assuming the end result is temporarily tradable so peoples hard work don't turn to muck when they realise they can't use the finished article (though they should have had enough clues when all the quest items were flagged Class: CLR/DRU Deity: Karana)

2. It looks like an Orb of Infinite Void when equipped.

3. The effect as described, is an 8pt HP regen/tick over 50 minutes and a 1pt rune.

The result of this is you get hit for 1 point of damage, the effect wears off.. regen and all.. :(

Being a Tunare druid, I gave the shield to a guildy who worships Karana, and she tells me it doesn't stack with Regrowth of the Groves, I don't know about Regrowth, Dar Khura's, Natures Recovery though - should with NR, as that takes up a different slot to RotG.
RE: A couple of things..

Sofar, Shield of Bane Warding is still tradable, so maybe, just maybe, this shield will remain tradable.
