I'm not sure if the drop has changed on this, but found one on a Frenzied Ghoul 10-16-03. I was exploring the Assassin's area and sat down to heal when he wandered up on me. He was at about 75% health..I'm guessing someone tried to kill him and ran him thru the dungeon. His spawn point is not near the Assassin area at all !
Anyway..he hit like a ton of bricks..I was doing the exploring with my 65th Warrior and he got in some good licks 130+. He did NOT have the FBSS, so I'm thinking SoE may have changed his alt drop to Exc. Hood...?

In my opinion you should definitely take this item over ivy etched.. as rangers we rely on Dex way more than wisdom to do our job (dealing damage) and if your trying to raise bow skill, i know how much of a pain in the **** it can be and you'll need all the dex you can get
Okay, need advice...
I am a Human Ranger on FV level 32.
I was looking into this as a potential upgrade to my Ivy Etched Helm.
I don't really like the fact of the lesser AC and the subsequent loss of my WIS,...but I like and sorta need the DEX for me bow and weapon procs.

This is still one of the best head items for a Monk / Beastlord until you can get level 50+ no drop stuff.
The leather graphic doesn't look that cool but I'm not parting with the stats on this thing. It helps my weapon proc immensely.

As a 45 Beastlord I prefer my Shissar Scaled Headband over this(i like the fact that it has no grafic because vah shir don't look good with head gear). I am not twinked and got my cash the hard way since this is my main char, to all those thinking it.

i have a helm of rile atm and it is sweet, but thing is it weighs 4 and is weighing me monky down. should i where this or the helm. stast on helm is much better. exe hood weighs less tho.

Depends on the situation. Normal solo and groups id go with the executioners hood. If it were a dragon raid or some such thing i go with the froggy crown casue of saves. Just my opinion.

The graphic on this think makes it look like your wearing a paper bag on your head. At least it does for dwarfs and DEs.
Looks better on other races. Looks like a polar bear head on barbarians and a sarnak skull on iksar. Same graphic as any other leather type hat (such as leather skullcap, lumberjack's cap, etc.)
Update: As of Luclin this is no longer true about barbarians; they've changed the leather hat graphics on them. So you won't get the bear head or cat head graphics on barbarians anymore unless you have the Luclin graphics turned off for them.

great for a monk...got the stats they want
/agree. I bought this today to replace my Lumberjack's Cap. Although this has 5 less ac than the LJ cap and no stamina, this weighs 1.3 stones less, and the 4str and 9dex are worth more than a mere 6hp, which is all 3sta gives you. Definitely one of the better head items for a monk.
Uh... Shaman isn't listed here.. But I remember equipping it once, my friend said she heard it looked good on barb males, but showed the stupid polar bear hat.. So.. Has it been changed since that pic, or what?
Could be she's confusing it with another item. Shamans can wear the Lumberjack's cap, and that displays the same graphic as this does when worn. But shamans can't wear this one.
And yes, this does look like a polar bear head on barbarians too, just like any other leather cap does.
Update: New Luclin graphics for barbarians doesn't make this look like a bear head anymore. Tis only looks like a bear head on barbarians if you have the Luclin graphics turned off for them.
