A: OMG! SOMEODY HELP! MY GNOLL IS ON FIRE!

B: Have no fear! I'll simply use my...<sound effect: da da da>...handy dandy GNOLL DOUSING ROD! <extiunguishes gnoll>

/snicker Douse? Dowse!

Just FYI - Douse is a perfectly acceptable variant of "dowse".

Also, beside meaning to immerse in liquid, the word douse/dowse means to find by way of a divining rod...so this rod would, by name, be used to help find gnolls.

There you go...you learned something today.

Hmm..I'd like to know which dictionary you use as a reference for your statement?

The oxford paperback dictionary says; "Dowse, to search for underground water or minerals using a 'Y' shaped stick or rod (Do not confuse with Douse)."

Of course, it only lists English usage.

Hmm...the disparity of language in the colonies (grin), common English (british) usage has douse as meaning to extinguish a flame, you don't use it like that?
