Young warriors, don't be discouraged by the fact that some people rate down this quest. It simply means there is better out there, but this quest may still be right for you.
If you aren't of level, and have someone to help, this is a great weapon for your secondary slot (off hand) that doesn't cost any platinum at all to get! That one factor makes this quest worth it for some people 8)
However, if you would like to see what people are talking about in these posts, check the links below. I remember when I was new to EQ, I would look at forums like this, and say stuff like "Wow! That's great info, but WTF is a lammy? Like a shammy?" Hope this helped someone out there 8)
If you're under the level to do the quest for the Soldier's Sword, I applaud your researching already 8) You'd be surprised how many people in game believe you have to play 24/7 to learn anything, when everything you could possibly want to know is right here 8)
If you can't get any of these, don't despair! The hunt for gear can be frustrating, I know, but there is an answer, at least for weapons. In Gulf of Gunthak, there are many decent weapons that usually rot at the pirate camps. Maybe if you ask nice, one of the higher level peeps will sell one too ya 8) Here's a link to the equipment list for that zone:
I had the opportunity to get this today. I passed. I'm a 52 War, but I've been using Lammy/Centi LS combo for several levels now: at least since I was 45, and this Soldier's Longsword isn't as good an off-hand weapon as Centi LS or several other weapons I can think of -- it is far worse as a primary.
I don't know how Veriant determines what sort of stats to give a quest-aquired weapon like this one, but the effort vs reward just doesn't cut it: the quest is a waste of time except insofar as the satisfaction of completing the quest itself. If this was a 14/29, it *might* be an okay off-hand weapon when stats are factored in. As it is, I recommend my fellow warriors in the level range this quest is meant for pass on this one.
I am a 433 warrior and have had a centi long and a lammy for several levels now i started this char about 7 weeks ago and saved up enough to buy those like 3 weeks ago... a 12 24 would be more like.. lammy drop in similar zones and so do jaddedmaces for this you have to do a quest so should be better then those... and i am not a twink everything dang near on my own goodbasher on que

the stats on this weapon are not really that bad, but the dmg/delay ratio is horrible for someone in the 40's would you be willing to trade a good ratio for good stats?? just something to think about (btw if you are strapped for cash icetooths are 50pp-75pp)

Just think the str/hp is better than the str/hp off the CLS and the extra junk on this sword makes up fer the weak dmg....not bad fer an off hand. And in my opinion this is better than a CSS
Wanted to make some comments on the warrior twilight quests in general, then some specific ones about this weap.
Verant obviously put a lot of time into developing and implementing these quests, but i think the rewards should be re-examined a bit. I like the fact that the drops are all in zones where a level 40/45/even 50 character can get some nice exp groups and have a great time. The problem ive found is there are too many equal or better armor/weap alternatives available to a level 40-45ish person to make doing these quests attractive.
I think this is definately the case with this sword. While hunting in Tenebrous, we stopped in to kill some Grimlings and we got four 12/29 picks that are .4 weight and go in either hand. I also got a 8/18 1hb off the tribals in Dawnshroud while hunting there. Obviously the sword is better than the pick, but 12/29 for the amount of running around to do this is pretty lame. Point of mentioning these two drops is that you can easily match this weap at level 40-45 without breaking a sweat and travelling all over the moon. Also, this is just the free drops i happened to get along the way. If you consider what the average level 45 warrrior can buy, this weapon is even more ridiculous. Some extremely cheap and common alternatives that are very close or better than Soldier's are Centi SS, Centi Warhammer, Sarnak Skullsplitter, Crys Spider Fang, and probably a bunch i've overlooked. A strong case could even be made for a Velium Short Blade over Soldier's.
Really dissappointing that these quests dont have people swarming all over the moon, getting people grouped and interacting, and enjoying some quality quests for a change. The infrastructure for these quests is already there, but the rewards are not enticing enough to generate a lot of interest. In the case of this sword, I would consider 12/25ish with same stats a more appropriate reward.
Kinda long winded of me, but needed to vent a little over what i see as a missed opportunity by Verant to keep people excited over doing quests.
The real problem with the Luclin quest is the need for trackers to locate 3/4 of the mobs your looking for. Most of these mobs are wanderers and if you dont have a tracker you can spend weeks in a zone looking for something and just barely missing it every day from lack of a tracker. Tracking mobs for weeks on end with the quest only being worthwhile if you hold a full suit of the stuff (with some exceptions, shaman set is way better than Totemic)hardly seems worth it in many eyes, mine included. This is really hard on the server I play on, Tallon Zek, as it is teams based and the dark team has NO TRACKERS WHATSOEVER! Fargin Verant!!
hehe umm 10lvl in a day isnt hard at all...I got my Troll Shammie to 14th in about 4 hours..the 1000's of pp maybe..there are cycle spawns where one can make 10kpp easy in less then a day..but thats at higher lvls tho...well good hunting and safe journey to all.
Best plat I know is only 450 pp an hour off of killing mobs. If anyone wants to try, get a lvl 40+ up to at least indifferent in paineel and kill the guards, they drop 8pp every single time in loot. make sure to get your charisma gear b4 you go there tho, 100 cha does wonders. There are like 26 guards you can whale on for plat but will take awhile to learn which ones you can do. Anyone wanting a detailed explanation reply to this post, there are tons of dirty little tricks there.
2 questions (not antagonism, curiosity) why would you need to get good faction with them if your gonna be killing them? and what is the charisma gear for, if you arnt having to sell any thing? (are you implying that they drop more pp if you have higher charisma?)
One of the cool things about paineel guards is that they dont give a faction hit so you can kill them all day long =). The townsfolk dont give a rats rear if you kill the guards either, they wont jump in and help the guards. Guild masters will tho...
As for the levels, yes, you can easily make lvl 10 in a day. I have brought characters to level 10 in less than 2 hours, using either bone chips in kaladim, or df belts in freeport.
as for the money, he is talking about day trading, not camping spawns. you hang out in EC, GFaymart, or wherever your server auction zone is, and watch the prices. when you see someone selling a popular item at a low price, you buy it, wait a few hours, and sell it for a high profit.
personally, I dont have the patience for it, but if you do, and are a good haggler, you can very easily make 10k from nothing in a week.
This weapon is not that bad, I think a much more valid question is:
Why bother? Forget the quest, why did VI bother putting these in - who was the target player? I know for a fact that if I was brand new to the game I could go to EC and make 10 levels and a couple thousand pp in around a day or so played time and get better equipment.
This stuff takes weeks to get a hold of, and at the level I can see getting to the zones where the quest items drop, it is just far easier to buy better stuff from other players.
By the way, I am 48 war with a lot of nice equipment choices (full cobalt except greaves/bracer, rbg, LSoEE, CBoL) and I also use Wurmslayer in all cases except when I am MA. Which doesnt happen much anymore at 48. Damage per second taunts, and only weapons with harmful procs get more agro than WS. The idead that delay is more important that ratio itself is ridiculously popular and pretty silly in the face of the obvious damage multiplier warriors get as they level. Not to mention the obvious diminished returns of haste and low delay weapons.
Anyway, I remember a time when a weapon like this would go for 20k or more (Prolly not too many servers that had pc's that rich at the time I refer too) - but now Lammy's go for 2 or 3k on Terris Thule, so its just silly to add more gear of obviously lesser value to the game.
Subject sez it all, why do all the weapons really suck?
The armors are generally pretty nice with the exception of rangers and rouge, who totally get the shaft...the purecaster staves are just pathetic, being 2 handed and lacking the inteligence of a stein of maggok, and the cleric hammer looked cool at first, until i noticed it being 2 handed as well...
It doesn't make any sense that they would add a solid set of questable armor but then make the weapon on par with a crystalized blade or icetooths claws.
I don't know what verant is smoking sometimes, the weapons in this questline really need revamped, how the hell is a warrior supposed to hold taunt with a 29 delay weapon anyway?
The beastlord's Feral Claw from the Twilight Sea quest is actually quite good. I still use one at 52 and will continue to do so until I can complete my epic. The only thing that I would like to see changed is to make it usable in either hand instead of just primary.

I keep getting conflicting reports on off-hand weapon viability... Some people say that only the Damage on the off-hand weapon matters, others say you should have a similar delay in your off-hand as your main hand.
Assuming that the off-hand weapon delay doesn't matter, this would be a very decent weapon for off-hand use. Decent damage & some nice stats.
Facts about melee 101. First offhand and main hand are independent of each other, so don't worry about matching delays. Put a lightstone in your primary slot and watch your off-hand still swing if you don't believe me.
Second the main difference between primary hand and secondary hand (other than the primary swings more) is the damage bonus. One of the reasons low delay weapons are so sought after is that your damage bonus is the same for all one handed weapons. The damage bonus is added to whatever damage you would normally do w/ the weapon everytime you hit the mob. If your damage bonus is 10, everytime you hit the mob w/ your primary weapon you do 10 more damage than if you had swung the weapon as your secondary. If you swing alot you get the damage bonus more. This is the reason the wurmslayer is not nearly as good of a high end weapon as it is a low level (also the reason wurmies are primary only; they would be far too good in the offhand). Therefore low delay is much more important in the primary hand. If you are a warrior you probably want fairly low delay in both hands as more hits pisses the mobs off more.
Now that we know that our hands operate independently, and understand how damage bonus works, we can draw some conclusions about what we need in our secondary slot. Going for damage only is stupid. Doesn't matter if you hit for 100 damage if you only do it once a battle. Going for pure low delay is not as effective as with the primary, because of the lack of damage bonus. Therefore the main thing to look for in an off-hand weapon is ratio. You want something that is going to do the best damage/second.
Some examples using common weapons. If you had a lammy (9/19) and a centi LS (14/27) in almost all cases you would be better off w/ the centi in your secondary weapon slot, even though it costs about 1/2 to 2/3 of the pp on my server. For primary (assuming you are of level to have a significant damage bonus) the lammy is a far superior weapon as its low delay allows for the damage bonus to be applied much more often. The only reason for dueling lammies is to keep agro.
Okay I think I have been long winded enough now, I hope this helps (if anyone ever actually reads this heh).
