Useful In PvP

I live and play on a Zek. Where these are really useful is in PvP/mass PvP. Note only because of what was mentioned above about fooling people about who your healers are, but also because for some reasons, people in skelly form are hard to click on and target.

For some people it may seem this item is a toy.Strikes me as a blindingly ignorant opinion though as you are not looking at it from all classes viewpoints.Though admittedly you are entitled to your say and I dont begrudge you that try it from this angle. And yes I do have a 60 ench on Luclin.
Visualise this.
Skeets in CT.Your an enchanter:a big fat dude just pulled and is standing in the tunnel blocking the view. You cant see.You cant target. You cant get past.Fattie has 2 skeets and an ooze on him.(skeets hit for 200)Whatcha gonna do?.(No I dont need answers thnx it is just an example.)
Ok same situation but fattie is now a skinny boney see through type dude.
I know which situation I would prefer as I have a bit of a thing for locking mobs down ASAP.This includes targeting by assisting off the puller and casting on inbound adds B4 they get anywhere near camp.
I am sure there are many other similar places.
I cant see anyone wanting to wear it though and yeah I can see peeps using it to show off too but it isnt a trash item.

In respect for everyones opinion i wont flame . but think of it this way .. This item sells for 80k - 120k ( acording to current posts). On maelin Starphye ( or something like that ) Ornate rob paterns are sold for 50k - 100k and for the melee classes other ornate plate molds are now becomming frequent in the bazaar windows. so by the post that i see . this item is BETTER then ..say, the best robe in the game for casters and the best armor in the game for melee ? ( opinions will vary on that, BUT definitly the top 3 armor besideds plane of time )
Secondly i dont understnad the post about having 100k in the bank and nothing to spend it on . thazts just plane crazy to blow that on an item " just becuase " when you NEVER have the best of everything. To me ... this neck item is a nice toy .. only a toy . not worth more then 10 k in my book.

for the reasons above AND
1) instant cast items are great for the despelling mobs but NEVER worth 80K for just that use.

2) Tinkers can now make shrinking devises that work in EVERY zone and cost around 2k ( depending on your server).

3) minus 100 hp is horrible for anyone especialy since pop came out . and even more important to have the extra HP's is in PVP servers.

there are good things to this neck item BUT not worth a 3rd of the lowest price that i have ever seen in the bazaar.

Firstly let me start by saying that having 100k in the bank and nothing to buy is not that uncommon. My Main is a 65 wizard on Torvon - I just spent 180k on my monk twink because there is nothing *Droppable* that is better than what I am wearing. As for being 100k I couldn't even imagine why be it maybe the 2 tricks you can perform with it or not no one will know!

I don't know about you but I sure as hell am not paying 80k for this item, to take the chance and give it to my group members so they can cast illusion on themselves. So that situation would work only if you trusted the person.

80k? what server you play on? Hell, I paid 120 for mine. And you are correct, this item serves no practical purpose; anyone that tells you they use it for size reduction is talkin out their *** since cobalt bracer works in all zones now. This item islike the warrior epic swords; useless but pretty. It's a concept that not many understand until they are put into the situation where they have 100k in the bank and nothing they want to buy. I can hear you laughing, but it does happen.

Ummm... you are forgetting that Ogres and Trolls play races besides warriors. Notably Shadowknights, who get neither the Cobalt Bracer or shrink spells of their own like shamans and beastlords.

Moreover, I wouldn't exactly say any warrior who rolls on this to shrink is playing a ventriloquism act with their rectums. Cobalt Bracers are pretty damn expensive in their own right. If I'm an ogre warrior and this drops, you can bet I'm gonna roll on this if I ain't got the 20k for a Cobalt Bracer.

Beating the dead horse..

Instaclick buff, works in ALL zones, doesn't get overwritten by your typical raid buffs. Therefore, great for debuffing mobs. When you are fighting mobs that debuff 4 slots at a time, instaclick items are a must. On top of the fact that it is an instaclick, there is also the rarity of it... Gobby earings are a dime a dozen, Spyglasses can be made by the hundreds, and the coldain ring is nodrop. Also, the Gobby earing doesn't stack with most atk buffs, so that puts a hurting on your DPS so you fall backon bracer of the hidden or some such.. Plus it is really cool to be a skelly :-)

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 20 2003 at 3:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) um useless, warrior epics are hardly useless. Although they are outdated (/cough so are primal weapons any more) they still have their uses. Warrior epic still has a 500hate raise with a 100dmg dd as well as the offhand being a worn effect for dex40 atk30 an 12ac i see hardly useless for a epic weapon.

Not too sure if this is true, but my necro friend says while in skeleton illusion you do not eat or drink. I think it'd be neat to have this cast on me (little halfling cackling while quad hitting mwahaha), but I'd rather see this go to someone that needs it, ie caster. I'd pass on a roll on this, unless there were no INT casters on the raid that wanted it. Then again, I know I am a minority heh.

And that might be the only reason you rarley see ppl with this item. If it is not a fattie its a person who wants to impress other ppl. When somone in your group turns into a skeleton and you know it isnt a chanter you think "ooo..he must be rich if he can "waste" 45k on a toy". At least thats what i think. I finnaly got me one of these and had it stolen from a guy who was using the effect (NEVER EVER trust stranges with such an expensive item!) but got it back (now the guy has like NO reputation left and is banned from most of the major guilds ;). Now im thinking on selling it. Its cool for a while but i think il rather get meself a Manarobe.

Because you take up less space then you would otherwise. When you get a small mob that requires alot of people to kill space becomes a problem. Make people smaller and you can fit more people around the mob.

So you're 60, eh?

I'd love this item, to slim myself down a bit, even at wood elf hight i'm still too fat to get by people, so i gotta get double shrinks, then i have to jump up steps while gettn hit, this item helps a lot, not just for showing off.

I'd have to agree here... As a Barbarian rogue I'd want this skeleton illusion over a shrink any day. The fact that it's instant cast wins me over your basic illusion masks because it's easy to cast if it wears off during a fight. No rogue wants to sit there for 12 seconds waiting to become a skinnier/smaller dark elf again. Melee types need to be able to manuever well, not just get out the way. Skinny but still pretty tall is far better than really short but still basically fat for getting around quickly and not having to worry much about being in the way or getting stuck between and behind people.

Hiyas everyone... Ive been looking to get one of these amulets for awhile... I'm a 53 magician.
I've gone on three fear raids, each time, one of these dropped. It kinda breaks my heart when I'm the ONLY int caster that needs and somehow, a rogue walks away with it. What was Verant thinking, making a very nice caster be able to be clicked from ones inventory? Why dont they do that with *useful* melee items? Maybe its kinda hard for you troll warriors out there to relate, so I will give an example.
So you are on a naggy raid and the cloak of flames drops... you are gareenteed it... since, by some bizaare reason, you are the only tank there. But little do you, the casters decide to roll on it... and guess who wins it? A nuke-happy wizard. Yeah, he will sure get good use out of it.
Now you see how casters feel? Please.. reach out to your guild. Stop the wrong-doing. Together, WE CAN make a difference.

I am sorry but any caster who says they NEED a neg 100hp item is just another person looking for the cool insta clicky effect.

Don't tell me it's for the Int because you can't get past the neg hp's especially if you are saying you are going to raids. I am yet to meet anyone who equips this item they all use it from their inventory slot, including the int casters.
RE: *sigh*
# Jul 06 2002 at 2:52 PM Rating: Default
There's a reason Melee's roll on this amulet. Being a caster, you might not know this, but sometimes it's difficult to position yourself within range of what a raid is fighting. In Skeleton form, you take up almost no space, and can squeeze into a small area. A rogue being able to hit the mob is well worth it.
You can die
# May 08 2002 at 2:25 PM Rating: Default
Yes, you can die from something like this on a lowbie. I put an ulthork BP (or some such BP that has -30 hp) on my lowbie cat by mistake and a few seconds later went unconscious. Couldn't figure out what the heck had happened, but when my health naturally rose back up enough to stand once more, the BP then killed me. Luckily this was before the "you keep all your equipment" patch and I was then a naked noob cat who could choose NOT to put the BP back on (once I figured out what the heck had happened of course--LOL). Not sure what would happen now that you keep your equipment on LOL.

Thanks to the newest patch, which happened to come out the day you posted this, you can no longer "kill yourself" by equipping items that reduce your HP below 1hp.

Actually, I am fairly sure that would not happen. The Amulet's effect is Ilusion: Skeleton only, and has no HP-to-Mana effect like the Necromaners' "Liche" type spells.

Additionally, (at the time of this posting) a base attribute can't be reduced to less than one. Likly the hitpoints of said character would be reduced to one.

Just FYI. =)

Perhaps you should get the info on the information you are posting before you actually post it. I have gotten states AND resits to go below 1... its not that hard if you have the right spell. Malosi cast on yourself will show you that resists go below one, and try making an oger and making it drink... you'll see what happens.
RE: don't put on a lv 1 wiz
# Mar 25 2003 at 12:16 AM Rating: Decent
Resists are NOT stats. My ogre warrior wears crusty armor. While my charisma should have been around -23, it showed up as 1. I got sprayed by a skunk in BBM (which lowers charisma more) and it was still 1. They changed it, you cannot drop a main statistic below 1. Resists are not a main stat.

Acutaly, 45k is quite average for this item now a days. After luclin came out they went for as cheap as 20k on Saryrn so that ppl could buy horses. Now that things have calmed down a bit they are back up. On saryrn PC says 40 to 50k. I payed 45k for mine (Ugh, i NEVER buy something to market price..usualy cheaper.. >_<) But with the new bazaar its really no telling what will happen to the prices. sold my Hiero cloak and ODS for 20k each the other day, bought the both back for 10k each. Might manage to sell this for 6o-70k.../shrugs Il just set it up for sale and go to bed.

Items are worth whatever someone will pay for them, no more, no less. I have seen this item got for 125k, not recently, but at one time. This rule goes for all items, I may only think GEBs are worth 3k, as they sell commonly on my server for that now, yet another server might have them commonly for 5k yet, or possibly, someone on my own server might be desperatee enuff to pay 4 k for one. Or, once again, let's say someone is desperate for cash, they sell for 1k, does that mean it's worth 1k period?

That's how the eq market works people, and that's why prices go into the ground, ppl see an item hastily sold at one price, and they refuse to pay more than that price, eventualy lowqering all instances of that item to that price, and so so until the item is worthless. Look at bronze armor for the best examples of this, I once sold/traded one for over 200pp in loot and cash, no on my server they arn't even keeping for the merchants. True, part of this is due to a server "growing up"), yet it also has to do with players devaluing thier own market.

Edited, Tue Apr 9 01:34:34 2002
RE: Eq Economy
# Jul 08 2002 at 2:58 PM Rating: Decent
players dont devalue a market...Its called supply and demand. Prices arent naturally set at a certain rate, and stay there, market forces naturally come into play and balance out the prices eventually. When a server starts, no one has any gear, so gear that would suck on an older server, is worth mor. Eventually, as players get better gear and sell their old gear, there is less demand for the "less uber" gear, and more demand for the better gear. This is why prices fall, there is an unlimited(sort of) supply of items, as mobs are constantly killed, and there is a set number of players. sure, more playeers join, and people make twinks, but higher level chars with good gear are able to "farm" gear and sell it to other players to generate cash.
More supply, while demand stays constant. This causes the supply curve to shift to the right, and the demand curve to stay constant. the resulting effect is more of a certain item for sale, at a lower price. There is no such thing as "players devalueing the market" or "idiots ruining the EQ economy", To tell you the truth, the economy is the one thing in EQ that can definately be considered"working as intended" If you dont believe me, take an intro to econ class, or read Adam Smith.

OK, now I am REALLY confused. Was standing in the bank in Thurgadin the other day and there is this dark elven female standing next to a skellie with a Light Velium Lance in its hand. My first though was "Holy CRAP is that one expensive item for a pet." THe name on the skellie (when targeted) didnt really have that "Pet" feel to it (name was Molba or Molbu on MT) so I checked the zone and sure enough there is a 60th Warlord of the same name in the zone.

Baffled I tried to wrack my brain to figure out how he would get that look (a VERY cool look with that lance). Unable to figure it out alone I decided to ask him. His answer was "Amulet of Necropotence, it has the effect Illusion: Skeleton. So last night I looked it up on EQPrices but didnt notice the classes. Now I am REALLY confused about it. Either it isnt limited to INT casters anymore (although why a warrior would want one beyond looks is beyond me)or something else was really causing it.

This item often goes to large tanks first. Groups that are capable of taking down these golems will realize the value of making your fat tanks... less fat. That is, there is a certain inherent value in tanks taking up less room. That is why many of these go to fat kids first. If they didn't then you would constantly hear Dmeto shouting "shrink yourselves please!" Anyways, they're only equippable by int casters, but very useful for fat melee types. If you can fit ten tanks on one mob then that's far better than five tanks on one mob. thx drive thru.
