There may be an easier way to get the shield and the tomahawk instead of sitting in Highpass Hold camped out for hours. As you leave Highpass Hold down to Eastern Karana, there is a rather long road that winds through the mountains and empties out on to the Plains of Eastern Karana. As soon as road ends and it levels out on to the plains, to the left there are some low hills. On those hills I've seen Grenix and Vexven (plus the gnoll chieftain and other named Mucktail gnolls) just sitting there minding there business. Every time I've gone through there (and I do mean every single time) on my way to HighPass, I check my track (I'm a ranger) and yep, there they are. No one is ever camped out in this spot. I don't think anyone realizes that Grenix (PGT) and Vexven (CDS) spawn there at the same time. But I've never gone to kill them to see if they'll drop the loot like they do up in Highpass. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I'll give it a try and post the results soon.
The ones in EK are different mobs despite having the same name. They also spawn with lower levels there. It would be too easy for people to get the PGT and CDS if they dropped them there. The weapon and shield are meant to be rare items, not common ones.

If you were me and I were you, would we still be friends?
Having spent a lot of time in younger days trying to get both the PGT and CDS in Highpass AND spending a lot of time in my older days in EK while spider hunting, I can say this:
1)Vexven and Grenix Mucktail DO spawn in Highpass. They are rare spawns at the Gnoll Ledge area. When you kill they they will drop the CDS and PGT respectively.
2)Vexven and Grenix Mucktail DO spawn in East Karana as well. They are found with the other Mucktail gnolls to your left as you walk down the ramp from Highhold just after you leave the ramp. I have killed them each here roughly 100 times each and they have never dropped anything other than the minor coin that all the other Mucktails drop.
3)There was a rumor that the EK ones were connected with the spawn of the ones in Highhold. The rumor being that when you killed the ones in EK, they would spawn the ones at the Gnoll Ledge in Highhold. This is false. I have had a ranger friend who was in the Gnoll Group in Highhold at the gnoll ledge and killed 5 of each of them in East Karana. None of the times did the Highhold version pop. The same ranger was in EK one time spider hunting and I was passing though an unpopulated Highhold and ran into Grenix. Sent him a tell to check track for Grenix there and he was indeed spawned in both places.
Just a little of what I have learned for what it is worth=)
Camped the Gnoll ledge this weekend solo for the first time. Was told named gnolls popped on the jutting out peak between the ramp up to the ledge and the bridge over to Cpt. O. Camped for two hours and got no named gnolls. Then Vexven came up and hit me from behind. He was easy kill for my 29 Pally who really needed a CDS. Worthwhile camp for an untwinked 20's level fighter who needs an upgrade from the Shiny Brass Shield. CDS does bash to stop casters and stun runners just like SBS.

At the level of 18 I was more than lucky to get this shield. Along for the ride was a lvl 18 High Elf Mage, A level 14 Vah Shir Warrior, a Lvl 13 Half Elf bard, and myself a lvl 18 Ranger (Wood Elf) of course. We originally camped the spot to get the ax dropped by the Vexvan's comrade. After a few hours of fighting gnolls for exp our warrior and bard had this great ax. Before you know it we start getting mauled and out of nowhere Vexvin shows up. At 18 he stilled con'd red to me. The bard and myself hacked away at Vexvin while our warrior took care of the smaller gnoll trash. Then all three of us started hacking away at him while our mage nuked him. Before you know it the warrior and I are running after him. I got the loot and sure enough there was a CDS. A big improvment from my shiny brass shield I had at the time. All in all we were very lucky that night. When all was said and done our Bard and Warrior level'd and everyone except for our mage had the great hatchet perfect for our late teen charachters.
This shield is worth the effort for those that aren't twinked or high lvl. The only problem is that this is a very rare spawn and totally random. I camped this spot by myself, which is possible, and ran into him only twice in those 5 days. I'm sure he spawns at least once a day because I killed his brother Grenix Mucktail at least 6 times before I got Vexven. There is a problem here with KS'ing. It's a very small zone and only two places to camp: Orcs and Gnolls. All I can say is if you really want it you'll get. You'll just have to work for it.
Does anyone know if this shield makes Paladin's shield bash into a magical attack so that it is effective against ghouls and other 'magic attack only' creatures????
I have been using this shield since lvl 30. Its a good midrange shield at an affordable price or camp whichever. I have bashed much with it. To my knowledge it has no "magical" attributes for bashing. It will however interrupt many MoB's spell casting when using it to bash during a MoB's spell. My bash is maxed at my lvl and does anywher between 5 and 15 pts of dmg on a MoB. BTW...i'm selling this shield on Rodcet Nife..as I just got my Trueheart Shield from the Plane of Hate and no longer need it.
as an Iksar SK, shields are important when training both slashing skills... I am probably going to camp this item, and I think my lvl 31 HT will more than likely take away any KSing (and unfortunately any other low lvl group hoping for this item)... I was wondering if there was a better shield for my lvl/class/race rather than hunting this Mucktail and probably getting /tell spammed with a bunch of noobs saying I KS'ed them

Well my 45 SK is using one so not really. The Clay Guardian Shield is +25 AC +50hps, goes for 1.5 to 3K maybe. So if you want a nice shield that you can camp easy then this one will work. And as a DE I need the +9 Str.
I joined a iksar monk lvl 20 and started killing gnolls, after the third kill Vexven popped. We killed him (he was yellow to him and red to me) and he dropped the CDS and we rolled. The monk won the roll but sold the shield to me for 100pp. I asked him if he was sure and he said he was to impatient to wait till someone buys it. Later that day i was leaving gnoll ledge and bumped into a nother lvl 35 iksar monk who gave to me a PGT for free!
I want to sell the CDS for 140pp, send me a tell if interested. Stats are +9str 12ac.

Last night, I was camping with two others (Warrior, Enchanter, and I'm a cleric). He spawned and was suprisingly easy to kill. I barely didn't even have to heal the warrior, and we were only level 16-18 at the time. He dropped a CDS, and I got it because they already had one.
I camped Vexven for two nights in a row, and both times he popped, about 30 seconds later two other gnolls popped with him (The first time it was two flamepaws, the second time, two brawlers). In Highpass he conned yellow to me at 21 both times, but I did see him once in EK, and he conned green to me there, but didn't drop anything when I killed him.
Wow... I looted one when i killed the named gnoll as I was running through highpass to check out what was new in Runnyeye after that patch. After I satisfied myself on killing alot of gobs, I zoned back through to bank in highkeep and killed the named again and yet another shield... Since they are lore I let someone else loot it. *shrug*
I've been grouped on the gnoll ledge in HH for a week now. I did win the PGT from Grenix Mucktail that spawns there (won roll in group), but have yet to see the CDS or Vexven come up.
In the description at the top this says that the CDS also drops off of Vexven Mucktail in EK, but I have not found that to be the case as of yet. I've killed all of the named gnolls that spawn in EK several times, but have yet to get a decent drop from any of them.

Ok, I am glad i chose the server I did becuase when i camped this spawn about 8 levels ago we didnt experience any KSing or anything of that sort. Our group got the CDS too but I didnt get the random (. My RL brother did. and he is a Mage. (SHEESH, he can't even use it)
On Xev, there are hardly any KS'ing in the Pass, I went from 16 to 20 without one incidence. I saw the shield twice, first a Monk won it ( I know! ) then the second time I won it.
Great for Paladins who raise 1HS and 2HS, as we cant Duel Weild and most of the races need the added strength ( Half Elf here )
Good luck camping him, good group late teens should do the trick.
I've been camping the Gnoll Ledge for the past several days. I've seen the PGT several times but not once have I seen the CDS. Can't wait to get my greedy hands on it!

NOW IF U CONTACT A GM AND REMIND HIM OF THE RULES IF HE DOSENT WANT TO HELP WHICH I HAVE AND HE DID CHANGE HIS MIND U WELL FIND THAT OTHERES WELL LEAVE U ALONE AND THE GM'S WELL DO WHAT IS RIGHT WHICH MAKES THE GAME A BETTER PLACE TO PLAY
I have no idea if what you are reading is pre- or post-PnP, but the PnP will take precedence EVERY time. And the PnP states that there are no camps, the person who first attacks/aggro's the MOB is the rightful "owner" of that MOB.
I was unaware of the GM decision of "NO CAMPS" policy. This would make my KS statement all wrong. It would make it more of a "Very, Very, Very, Very long camp item". As to the item acquired by the ranger, I will be looking him up to apologize to him for my ERROR. This is still an item that is not worth camping in my opinion.

Was I the only one who didn't think this was a serious post? I felt like the response to this post was from people who took this a little too personal, concidering that an in-game rogue would probably concider such actions, dirty or not. it seemed to me as more of a joke to all the power lifting muscle headed characters of EQ, who after a hard fought battle found the treasure chest empty. I laugh at the idea of a stupified and bewildered "tank" wondering where his loot went, and that's the point! I'm not laughing at anyone, because it's an idea; a joke; a quip; nothing serious. Regardless of how it was meant to be translated, that's how I took it...and that makes all the difference...POINT OF VIEW. other people take things differnetly. No need to get bent outta shape over it. Laugh last, SpinHollower, you got quite the rise outta them.

I wouldn't worry too much about that post. A rogue can't pickpocker a magic item, so it's fargin impossible to "steal" this. However if it was, your a dirty bastage to do it, IMO. Being a rogue I wouldn't even do it if i had the option.
As a SK, my harm touch gives me a great advantage to stop an SK on a good drop - just wait till it's close enough that I can garantee the kill and one HT saves the item for myself or my group. So if you're camping a highly KS'd spawn, bring a SK if possible and emphasise to him his most important job of saving the kill from the KSers.
Better yet if you really want to stop the KS bring a chanter and have him mez the KSer and finish killing the spawn then if your on vallon, tallon, or rallos kill him. This almost always works I've gotten CDS a few time and also got PGT a few times I think that they are easy to get so I just sell them and make the extra money. Good Luck.
Had the ledge camped just two days ago for 4 hours with two other mid 20's level and we where holding our own. Noticed a 24 lvl ranger hanging around about 1/2 hour before Vexven spawned (we didnt know when his spawn was going to be but the KS'ing ranger did) and thought nothing of it. I was covering the whole ledge and going down on path scouting with one other of my group members to make sure we covered the whole area. Then Vexven spawned, the KS'ing ranger and one of my group members was on him. I came up on Vexven when he was about 10% damaged. Next thing you know the ranger was casting spells and Vexven was dead and KS ranger took shield. KS'ing ranger said he waited to attack. Yea, wanted us to take some of the damage and draw the attack so he could finish Named off with more spell damage. He would not Roll for it. Said he was camped for 12 hours waiting for it. I was there for 4 hours and only saw him for 1/2 hour before spawn. His story changed to that fact. Still would not roll. DONT waste your time on this because most everyone I've talked to has experienced KS on this item. Its to much a WASTE of ones life to have it stolen at the last moment. Their is no camping rights when it comes to the CDS so it seams to me. Love to have but would rather see it removed from the game if it brings out the worst in people. Petition - No, not yet. What proof do I have other than the three of us against his word. Would be a pissing match. Better to say, forget it and move on. BUT I WONT EVER FORGET HE PC NAME - EVER.
I figure I have somewhere in the mid 20's hours trying to get this thing. If I where to camp this again, assuming I take over when a group disbands their camp after spawn. I would have to wait another 6 hours with a minimum of 3 of us to hold the camp from the gnolls. Thus a 1/3 chance of winning the roll, this would put me at somewhere in the low 30's hours if I got lucky on first roll and mid 40's or higher if unlucky takeing out the KS'ing going on. Throw that in, and you are over 50 to 60 hours, if your lucky and higher if not. WHAT A WASTE OF LIFE.
It is indeed a Major Lightsource. But, alas, it is bugged. If you enter water, the light effect is cancelled. You must unequip and then reequip to get the light back.
Caramoor 35 Paladin of Quellious 35 Mage of Vazelle
Your the worst kind of player in this game, if i ever see your char in game, i will spit on it. If you try that crap when you reach higher lvls your never going to get a group. Go back to quake or diablo you greedy ****
