One my way to Broog i got ODS off a bok knight as of 10/10/05. I double checked cause i have seen them drop from dar knights. did they change drop? or was i dreaming?
Plowed from entrance to the Prymid, then plowed to Disco, killed Disco areas 1 and 2, 2 times and no Obulus Death Shroud drop. Probably killed 20 to 30 Froglok Dar Knights is it possible that the only Dar Knight that drops the ODS is the one at entrance?
It's a kunark thing. Solist's Wand, Bracer of the Hidden, Sibilizan berserker cloak, Obulus Death Shroud, RBG. All of these things drop off crap mobs but they only drop like 1 in 500 mobs or less. Kinda like the neck items in Natimbi...
Went into seb about 3months back w my shaman botting my ranger and first mob i killed at ent dropped this goody....shear luck considering ive cleared zone once before and gotten only a crappy staff to drop and junk spells.

I picked mine up a few months back on Fennin Ro. I waited til someone was selling one for 5-6K. Last night, there was someone in the bazaar begging to buy one for 15K and no one would sell one. I did a search on it and the prices were all over 22K!

Posted:Nov 07 2003 at 10:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) WOHOOO! Awesome! I got mine on Vallon Zek in the bazaar for 10k last night. I think it will be a fine accessory for my level 17 Enchanter. I got on my horse and chain casted several spells that normally leave me out of mana quickly to find that I still had plenty! This item is amazing, and I am very pleased that I made this purchase.
Any reason this doesn't kick in on ports? I get the shimmering message on nearly every spell (except those covered by another focus item) but nothing on ports!
This actually does work with Port (and Gate), but you do not see the effect because it happens right after you begin to zone, but before you actually arrive at your destination, as your system is loading.
Knights arent all that can drop it, i know this to be true because mine came off a shaman.
i remember the exact moment it dropped, shaman adds, chanter mezes, wizzie nukes i get malaise, proceed to be pissed and nuke its *** off, reach down and boom there it was. I was shocked, i even took a pic somewhere, i am 100% positive the knights arent all that drop it. Unless vi just freaked out and said here take the damn thing...
Will mana prev 3 stack with AA ability 'spell casting mastery' pls?
Slightly off topic - My thinking is that 'spell casting mastery' has a 'chance' to reduce mana cost of spell by 5pct, etc up to 30pct - any1 know the 'chance' pct pls?
MPIII items and SCM stack, but there is probably an overall cap on how much mana can be saved by AAs and focus items combined (it definitely works this way for Extended Enhancement items and SCR).
SCM always saves mana, with each and every cast. Just like caster specialization, VI/SOE says one thing, the reality is another.
Same Here had one drop it from the 2 frogs at the entrance! I dodn't know that this uber item dropped off such a common mob. Albiet rare as it is I was quiet surprised and my guilds shammy is definetly a friend for life. They sell for 8-10K on Povar. Guess this explains why the late nights are camped and the zone is full of 63+ toons.
We have spent lot lot lot of time in Seb, usually camp NG, and we never looted one of these Killed thousand and thousand Dar knight and any others Forggy in there and NOT A Obulus ! Larikan's mask, yes, Lamentation yes, Gems Oh Yess ! but Obulus...
No. Focus items do not stack when they affect the same attribute, that is, you can't have two mana preserving focus effects at the same time.
Of course, my wizzy has spell haste, mana preservation, and improved damage items, so he can cast a nuke faster, with less mana, and it'll hit harder. Those focus items all affect different attributes.
Dropped off the third mob into the zone (a Dar Knight). Won the roll. A nice upgrade to Adamantite Epaulets. I've spent a lot of time in this zone and probably killed hundreds of Dar knights and this is the first one I've seen drop.
Heh, I (49 nec)got my key this morning for Seb....went in with a full guildy group and sat around for a few kills. I then gated out cause my friend (51 mage) got on and didn't have a key...so I went and helped her get the stuff for one. Got back to Seb couple hours later and no one in zone. The two pops at door where a night and a wizard. Mezz pulled knight and kept mezzing wizard whenever he agro'ed. It was a hard fight for our pets and all.
Searched the wiz first and I saw the ODS their. Spammed the Guildchat a bit with OMG cause this was my first really nice find (unless you count a runed mithral bracelet in solb). First pull in zone, I like this place now.
Have seen 2 drop in Seb and neither came off a dar knight. First was off an Ilis Wizard, second was off a Krup Knight. Not common by any means, but have gotten 2 to drop on last 3 trips to Seb.
I am not sure where these prices came from, maybe our sever is messed up. I rarely see these for sell and when they are, its for 20-30k. Would love to see one for 11k. but have one and love mine. so guess its worth what u are willing to pay
This price also includes many prices from before the Focus Effect patch... the value of this increased tremendously when they put Mana Preservation III on it.
Actually, no. The higher ranked focus item is always the one used. So if you have the ODS you may as well sell your BA Med unless you need the other stats on it.
If you are wearing both, the lesser one (i.e. MP 2 item) will fire a msg for spells under lvl 44 while the greater (i.e. MP 3 item) will fire for spells 45 - 60 . My beastlord wears items with both MP 2 and MP 3 and this is how it occurs on her.
Well yeah, but the mana preservation III will work for all spells... I think that was the point that the original poster was trying to make, that you dont need an MP II item that exclusively works for 20-44 and an MP III item that exclusively works for 45-60.
Hey no worries on the medallion - the percentage is the same... You save the same amount of mana. The difference is the level of spells - and the BA Medallion was 'able' to work for the spells you were casting, so it did the focus effect.
If you had taken off the BA Medallion, the ODS would have done it.
I bought this item off a friend that got it in a trade before the focus was added. i bought it off of them for 10k when the going rate on TP was over 18k :). i LOVE it i was at the time a lvl 56 druid with 245wis. that very night my firend and a few others, including a lvl 59 druid with 255 wis and a much bigger mana pool then mine whent to FG for the first time and we only had one cleric. our cleric died about 10secs into the first pull and me and the other druid were left as the healers. at the time the other druid yelled OOM i notcied i was still at 40%. if not for my ODS our group would not have lived the trip. say what you want about this item but it ROCKS and i do not belive it is only 10% mana save like eveyone says.
only issue i ever had with this item is (yeah point and laugh at me) i was using a black alloy madallion at the time and for some really strange reason on my lower lvl spells it was over riding my ODS /shrug. so as a wearning dont try to stack these 2 items.
about a week after i got this time a lvl 60 druid that i had know since our 30's actually pointed and laughed at me for buying one but about a week later he send me a tell and asked me if i knew where he could get one at :).
The savings come out of the mana you USE, not your total mana. If you have 6,000 mana, your actually going to save 10% mana on that extra 600 points everyone is talking about in this thread.
If you were able to use every point of mana, then you'd find that you were able to cast about 667 points extra from a pool of 6,000 mana for a total of 6667 mana. [6000*.1=600 600*.1=60 60*.1=6 6*.1=.6 600+60+6+.6=667]
Also remember that, for the purpose of these calculations mana generating items increase the available mana pool. When you expend that generated mana, you get the same savings. So if durring an encounter you get an extra 1200 mana from mind buffs, canabalize or whatever, you can add an additional 133 mana savings after you use this additional mana.
So 6000 original mana with 1200 generated mana gets you about 800 additional mana in savings for the conflict.
{note: Some complex mathmatics can be employed to calculate the savings. However, EQ is a game for all ages and technical levels. Intuitivly multiplying out the savings is simple and fast enough. For this reason, I did not include any formulas, feeling the examples provided were enough. The numbers used were plucked from this discussion. My character has no where near this much mana, and thus my personal savings are proportionatly less than those stated.}
Similar price on The Nameless. Usually hovers around 15k. *Somehow* one of the traders put it up for 1350. Maybe he missed a zero.. who knows.. I grabbed it and transferred the item over to my druid. I havent tested it much since I just got it but it looks like my nukes, damage shields, and sow fall under the MP3 focus.
Focus effects are not procs. They're permanent. They also work on any lvl character. The difference in focus levels are what spells they affect. Focus level I is up to ~22nd, focus II is up to 44th (I have a few of these) and focus III is all spell levels. This item will cause all spells to cost 10% less (other than specifically designated spells, such as Complete Heal which is not affected by any focus to my knowledge)

actually, focus III is up to level 60. for any spells over 60, you'll need a focus IV item (up to lvl 65, i believe only found in PoP). but focus III is about as high as you can twink.
