AHHHHHHHH

OK. I saw this in the bazaar. It doesn't say no drop anymore and it says recommended level of 51, and then shows the mana and hp stats with the lower red values. Usually this means that someone below the recommended level can use it, but they get the lower red stats. Well, I'd been saving up platinum from months of farming to upgrade my 46 W.E. Ranger. I buy it and it won't let me use it. I'm I to understand from the above post that I HAVE to be 51 to put it on? If so, then what are the red values for?

This item started out as being no drop, and having no recommended or required level. Then no drop was removed and they added recommended level 51; that's when you saw the reduced stats cause you were under 51. NOW this item has been changed to required level 51, and you won't see the reduced values on an item with a required level cause there's no point .. you can't use it at all until the required level. Some items do however, have both a rec and a req level ... and you will see the reduced stat values on those because it's possible to equip it at the required level but under the recommended level. I know to some this post seems like obvious common sense information .. but many people ( including both RL and in game friends of mine) always have problems understanding recommended and required level )
Wearable?
# Sep 26 2002 at 3:17 PM Rating: Default
Bought one in the Bazaar. Completely different stats/ac. States that is a magic item and says nothing about No Drop!. I try to put it on and it says that I cannot wear it because of my class/deity!

You have to be lvl 51 to equip, I have seen them for sale recently as well, and the recommended level is 51.

Real nice shoulder piece.

Stats were:
AC: 10
DEX +5, STA +5, WIS +4, HP +35, Mana +30
Recommended lvl of 51
Class: RNG DRU
Race: ALL

The reason you cannot equip it is that it isn't recommended level of 51, it's REQUIRED level 51.

(word for word)
"The dream of every Monk is to attain the skill and age necessary to enter the Planes of the Gods and kill the fabled Shiverback Gorillas, who are rumored to be the source of Shiverback hides. Other armors are available throughout the lands, but Shiverback armor may be the best MONK-ONLY armor in the lands of Norrath."

So why the HELL are they giving it to Druids and Rangers?!?! I'm not even a monk and this (sorta) upsets me...keep with the lore of the game, Verant!

otherwise, it's okay armor..nice upgrade from Nathsar Vambraces...which are Monk useable

This thread was started a long time ago, so it's not likely that this post will EVER be seen. But I felt the need to post anyway. Ok, a few things. First, the kunark strategy guide is refering to Plane of Fear, and the monk only armor it talks about is the class specific old school planar armor (every class has some). The monk armor is called shiverback-hide and drops in plane of fear. For example the SK armor is called umbral platemail and also comes from fear or take the shaman armor, which is called rune etched and comes from hate. These class specific 'suits' were probably the best out there before velious was released. This shoulder piece, however, was added when CT zone was revamped, which took place after luclin. When the guide was written, they didn't even know that some day this shoulder item would exist. Hope this clears up any confusion you had about this item.

From a role-playing standpoint it would make sense that this is a druid and ranger item. Both these classes are attuned to and care for the land and it's animals. Something that is fetid is diseased and therefore needs to be removed so the disease does not spread. That is the 'job' of druids and rangers and hence they are the ones to receive the benefits of doing so.

Just my 2cp worth

P.S. My 54th level druid wife will be looking forward to the first guild raid here to hopefully reap this reward.

Wow, what's with all the intelligent posts today? Has the patch brought you all out of the wood-work? =P You make an excellent point Desi/Dezzi, and I have to agree with your side as well. Perhaps Verant can make it so the fetid shiverbacks can drop fetid shiverback hide gear for druids/rangers and some other kind of gear for monks to use? I love when mobs drop things that take roleplaying issues into effect, and I hope that there are more additions to the game such as this. It's a shame you have only made 10 posts Desi/Dezzi and there are other people that have posted 'U suxx012, 1 r0xx012!' 200+ times =(.

I have to agree with you Astralyte. Perhaps this wasn't the best name to give to an item that is ranger/druid only usable and has a monk-themed name. It's nice to see a druid posting something that makes sense instead of the usual "Druids get shafted all the time! We should be able to use a 50AC BP!". Perhaps they can change this to some sort of rubicite armor and keep it ranger/druid and make a different kind of armor called Fetid Shiverback Hide that is monk only. I would have to see a druid running about in some rubicite gear =). Oh and just a slight correction : This piece of equipment is worn on the shoulders, while Nasthar Vambraces are worn on the Arms.

Wow, if and when I ever get this item, it'd replace the Crested Spaulders I've been using for... 27 levels and counting.

HP and Mana plus some WIS - I like it.

Its a pain in the **** for a monk to be able to get an upgrade out of Drolvargs Mantle. The low weight and the ac would have made this good for monks. Its not a monk item though and not that much better either for the difficulty involved in getting it.

Rangers might view this as a nice upgrade.
Paladins might wish they could use.

However, for a Druid there are better.
For Cleric/Shamans they don't need this for upgrades.

Check out the Umbral EQ.

Now that an item that is an upgrade to the ODS is dropping here, I wonder when the druids and rangers are going to start posting that it is un-fair that clerics, shamans, and paladins can't equip this item as well? What's that you say? Druids and Rangers don't care about things being fair unless they can't equip the item in question? Oh yeah, that's what I thought....

I agree, I would definately upgrade from my rangers tattered mantle. Less AC but the other stats are too much too pass up.
