I made a human cleric, way back in 2001. I have never been refused a group based on my race.

At level 70 with 127 aa, I have wis capped, and some to spare. Honestly, anyone who says race matters for a cleric, is wrong. Just make one you like, based on looks, racial abilities, starting city, whatever. If you play well, you'll get more groups than you'll ever need, and nobody will care what race you are. There are clerics of all races in the top guilds on every server.

Pay attention, learn your class, and race is nothing.

I made a froglok cleric, for only 2 reasons.
1.) Less KoS in most places unlike an evil race.
2.) So I wouldn't have to train my swimming hehe.

I would like to say that yes in the long run it doesnt matter which race up pick and that race selection should b picked by what u think looks coolest, but one thing nobdy here even seemed to consider was erudite cleric. they have some of the most awesome armor ive ever seen, of couse the full plate look but what really rocks the visor thing just kicks @ss.

yes its true races dont matter at high end game but if your like a lot fo people and not twinking character starting stats matter i found it to be best to get as much int as you can froma race form the git go. not sure all the cleric race stats but just my 2 cents. also want to say that i have seen many people tell everyone best race isnt a real thing and they are right but when people ask best there asking best starting stats for that class and prob asking becuase not twinking character out the wooza like every other freaking person on the servers. like all others have stated, race dosn't realy matter in the day to day role of being a cleric.

myself, i chose halfling. i did it for several reasons, the exp bonus, the ability to see at night, the ability to sneak, the ability to hide, and the best ever starting zone for a noobie.

the only one i would concider after halfling would be DE, and thats because of the snare. but that wasn't enough of a reason for me.

i can't count the number of times i have used sneak and hide.

find a merchant that won't buy/sell from you? go behind them, hit sneak, and poof, they love you.

this worked great when i used to hunt in runyeye, is great zone for a young cleric, used to be decent pp, what made it great for a halfling was at the bottom of the zone there is a bank, and merchants to sell your VT to. but without the ability to sneak, they won't buy from you after you killed so many goblins.

this also worked great when going for the ring (epic 1.0) you need from the goblin in...hmmmmm.. sol A? when doing that camp, you could kill all the goblins, then go sell all the VT to the merchant there as well.

and omg, i remember my LOiO days, using sneak to sneak into the sarnak fort to get to a ledge group lol.

halfling>DE>then any others beside human...but i put human at the bottom cause i hate it that ya can't see! well eurudite right there with em ;-P

Gnomes by and far are the best!

Why? Simply put Gnomes are the smartest, cutest, and most fun when oily and up to our necks in spare parts. This only applies to those of us who follow Bristlebane of course. Bertoxxulos be damned and Brell, well he is ok but kind of that sad drunk uncle who you like but don't want to hang round. Also, We don't need no stinkin' racial attributes. We use technology to overcome everything.

Again, Gnomes are the best!

I have a high elf cleric as well (68 on Cazic Thule) and like her. I don't like playing a dwarf because I hate being so short, but that is personal preference. Addtionally I agree with the statement about wisdom. It IS the MOST important stat for a cleric and regardless of what people like to do with clerics, a cleric's main job is to heal.

I made a Erudite.

He's still quite young (14) but his wisdom is unbuffed 189. has nice mana and he looks awesome :P

I am new to EQ and am thinking about making a white/silver Drakkin Cleric. Anyone know if that combo is a good choice? I'd like to do a cleric, and have been mainly looking at the Drakkin. Is there another race that would be better? Inquiring monds wanna know.

Dwarf is best, IMHO. They have the best physical stats of all the races so they can solo better. The others are more suited to standing at the back of a group throwing heals and buffs when needed, which is the most boring way to play a cleric, IMO, and which dwarfs can do just as well as the rest of them. The other have too much INT and INT is not a terribly useful stat for a cleric. I would put halfling second and human I wouldn't even consider because they don't excel in any area. Drakkin is almost the same as human only with a racial breath weapon. Frogloks have good starting stats, too, so they aren't totally gimp in a fight. I'd rather be able to hold out for a minute or two while the tanks get back to the top of the hate list instead of running around in a circle screaming like a little girl every time I get heal aggro.
