Classes: The Cleric

Clerics -- the premier healer in the game. A popular class for any group, the cleric brings the ability to heal the party and keep you from dying, and can even bring you back from death at higher levels.

What is the best way to play a cleric? Can a cleric be soloed, and if so how? How should you play a cleric in a group? What spells are the best ones to buy and develop? what skills should a cleric concentrate on? What items should you seek out?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Cleric and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

LDoN or Not to LDoN?

My turn to ask a question :-)

Well, I've been hearing from people that my only real option to fast leveling at 36 is buying LDoN. I've been resisting that somewhat so I tried my old haunts. Overthere is REAL slow at 36 and even Dreadlands feels slow in a good group (but that could be simply the fact I'm the lowest level member in most groups).

Is there another option? Not guilded yet so no pal's to hang with (been away from the game for a while). Should I just pop the $$ for LDoN?

Yes. There are spells (the spell haste line as well as Bulwark of Vie, a dmg absorbing shield, and RGC) that you will need later. XP at higher lvls is pretty good, so it's probably good for your lvl also. AND, as a cleric you took a vow of poverty (somewhere along the line), but you don't HAVE to be poor forever. LDoN loot is the best there is for the time and effort spent to get a group.
Check out the merchant in North Ro (Takish dungeon) for very good armor. It will take your some time to get it, but unless you are in an Elemental guild, Its the best you can get. At this point most people you will meet may have all the augs they want. You should be able to enhance your wis and resists fairly quickly. The Adventurer's Stone enhances your PoP Intric Wood Figurine as you gain victories. All in all there are many pluses for getting LDoN.
The only minus I have encountered is that it gets boring at high lvls with good gear unless you do an Adventure on the Hard setting. It's not for the faint of heart. I did one where I spent MOST of the fight below 40 mana and below 20 the last 10 minutes. I had to seriously med and pray I could build up ONE CH before the tank got too low to get it off. We won with a couple minutes to spare. What a rush!
Yes. Buy LDoN. Have fun and save points for stuff. Just don't forget to visit your ould haunts from time to time.

I just came back to the game a little bit ago, I am now a 54 clr, and I found that exp/loot/rewards are excellent in LDoN and you simply need it to get the spells that you want. For example, group temp at lvl 49 spell that took me about 6 succesfull adv out of N ro to get. I would suggest getting it, it is loads of fun and take the monity of just going in camping and killing mobs in a zone.

My story it was out of BB and we had two members go LD and when they got back we needed to get 6 pieces of something with 9 mins to go, we got it with what had to be under a min left and me with 5% mana left. It was one of the most exciting experiences I have had in eq. Go get it!

I was pretty skeptical about LDoN. But, now I'm a believer. It's fun, you meet people you probably never would have before. Make quick friendships and good hunting buddies. Now on the down side I've been taken by a ML before. After the adventure he just popped and left. But, that only happened once. The augments are worth it. Yeah it makes it no drop but, that's easily remedied by the fact that you can take it out by destroying the augment. thus making it droppable again (if it was in the first place). As far as leveling goes. Well, the exps are excellent sir. At your level you if I remember correctly you can make a gold and a half in an adventure. Not sure though. But, at 50th with my bard I am making a gold and one blue per mission. and that's not clearing out the dungeon. that's doing what needs to be done and then going out to get another.

Try Gunthak beach, Echo Caverns (not hidden side), the first drop in Mines of Nurga (bring a porter to get out easily), Tower of Frozen Shadow. There are tons of places with decent exp in 30s if you have friends to group with. If not, LDoN. LDoN always needs clerics in 30s on my server.

While yes the xp in LDoN is very good, and the adventure prizes get really nice, in the end I really don't think you 'need' to get LDoN. As was stated in another post, there are plenty of places to hunt and get comparable xp. With the revamp of last year, the mines of nurga is a great place to hunt, the named are common and the drops are fair, and of course has the ever nice dungeon xp bonus. One thing I noticed when my cleric was that level was that it is a lot easier for a cleric to get a grp in an area that would be a bit high for anyone else. At 36, my cleric had his first trip to KC, tho there was a higher level druid in the group to help out on heals. It really depends on how daring you are as a cleric, and how fast you honestly want to level.
