Classes: The Bard

Bards - the jack of all trades. Each level is a new song and a new way to play. Handy with a weapon and able to wear decent armor, bards can hold their own in a fight. Plus, the ability to twist two to three songs without using mana gives the bard a magical ability like no other class.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the bard? Can they solo, and if so how? How should they best contribute to the group? What is the best strategy to develop your bard? What skills and songs are the most important for you to master? What equipment should you be trying to get for your bard.

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the bard and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Hi,
I was making a Half-Elf bard and i was wondering how I should distribute stats?

I found this suggestion on a website:
10 str
5 dex
10 cha

Is that about right or no?

Some folks would say STA=HP so put it all in STA. It used to be that STA was the hardest to raise by gear. However, there is more STA gear out there now and the rules on exhaustion have been changed so its not as critical as it once was.

DEX helps a little with preventing missed notes, offensive skill ups, and weapon procs. A good DEX doesn't hurt.

STR is nice since bards are a plate armor wearing class and plate armor can get heavy. It also will affect your damage output a little.

CHA is important. If your Lull song gets resisted your CHA score will determine if the mob will aggro on you or not. The boost you get with NPC merchants is useful, too.

If you try tradeskills STR is usefull for smithing. Dex is good for fletching (and possibly jewelry crafting). CHA is good since it will lower your cost for supplies from NPC vendors.
