Anyone have any suggestions on which would be the best race for a necro?

did the same survey in the general forum and got the same answer. was generally all in favor of iksar. thanks :)

it's been since november of 2005 that i last played. had a lvl 40 wood elf ranger that i enjoyed quite a bit. apparently theres some new races im gonna have to look at :)

This is no longer true. The first patch with TSS stated racial experience penalties have been removed.

Bah... Iksar are not the best Necro class. You have a huge INT penalty. Before you say you can make up the penalty with gear the same can be said with regen. Before Drakkins came into the game IMO the best class was the Eurdin they started out with such a high INT that you could focus more of your gear on HP and getting a +2 regen peice of gear. At this point most toons are so twinked out that it really doesnt matter what class you go with.

I happen to like Drakkins because you can go anywhere in the home city without being KOS. I love the breath weapon and the fact that there are several very good low level quests you can do. You can pretty much run from 1-75 with the serpents expansion, and that imo is a plus as well

My necro is 61 now and he's a gnome. I've had 2 comments:
1. he looks really evil being so small
2. he looks cute /sigh

Yes, Iksar do start with Forage. Not sure how high it starts but its used in several quests avaliable through Kunark.

I like playing my dark elf necro, lvl 25, but I don't *love* playing him.

After reading the above, I...just don't know. Been thinking about re-rolling him as another race.

That regen is a good point on the lich thing later, plus you get forage, and a cool starting city and a good base armor class. And, just my opinion, a neat look.

I took the dark elf for the ultravision, and the convenience of their starting city location and local quests, but there are spells for ultravision, and feign feath is often a better solution to hide....because undead can still see through hide. Also, because the skill is capped at 50, it fails often, which means it's unreliable in emergenices in any case. Also, with the pok, the location of the DE city is irrelevant (no longer a major crossroads town), so all I'd be missing out on is neriak quests.

I like the drakkin home city (even with the lag), and the breath weapon sounds really interesting from what I hear. What kind of night vision do they get? do they have any other abilities? Better base armor class? Anything?

Based on all the above, I must admit the iksar sounds like the winner so far.

71 HP a Tick. Do you realize that at 75 and decently gears (NOT RAID) you can be 11k hp buffed? Your likely agro kiting or grouping and unless your a tard not getting hit ofton. Oh and we just happen to have a butt load of duration taps. If your having a problem with it. I know I don't. 4 or 5 agro kites and I am ready for a med. 30 sec of OOC regen your ikky regen bonus is garbage.

Besides giving lowbies our lvl 74 otherside rk2 and saying this is why Ikky's are better is like saying omg everyone dies cause the damage on this is so high!!! It is completely irrelevant now with OOC regen... for that matter so is the shaman Cani AA. If we were talking Lucin days of 3-4k hp necro's then you have an argument.

Oh and on the drakkin... Your breath weapon is useful for groups but rarely for kiting. its a PB AE basically so hard to get it to hit a mob that if you let close enough might quad you for 2k to 4k hp. Very nice for groups though.

Out of combat regen is pretty much null and void in raids. It is also not available if you are DoTed. Take into account how long Tash or Malo lasts. I wouldn't be so quick to dump on the Iksar's regen. Sure, perhaps someone in your group can cure you. But, most people don't play the best soloing class to join groups all the time.

Go with whatever race appeals to you most.
