Hey this is my first post. I have heard of AFK Leveling from other high lvl necro's (lvl 70's) and I have a lvl 2 necro and I was wonderin how to do it and what it actually is. So if anyone can shed some light on AFK leveling for me that would be most apreciated. Thanks.

um it is what it sounds like you leach exp. you have to be high enough to group with the person that is letting you leach.

I have heard another method called AFK leveling, Necro pet some pet gear, temp for both and a nice Damage shield then goes to an area with roaming aggroing mobs finds an isolated spot and sit down when a mob attack the DS and pet kill the mob repeat.

Most likely wouldn't work for high levels but low to meds it a pretty good trick.

Be careful, some methods of afk lvling are exploits or use macro programs. These will get you banned. Be Warned...

With a fist, a shield, summoned plate, and a temp on your pet, your pet can tank most things even to you or even higher until the 20s at least, and then I'd stick to even or blue cons if your going to let your pet do the tanking, but by then you can just aggro kite in some zones.

Your pet won't gain aggro from wandering mobs just by standing there, you actually have to make it attack, so you can't afk level by just letting your pet stand there.

Your pet will however attack mobs that attack you, so if you stand in an area that light blue or weak db to you wander by and attack you say every 5 mins, and you have enough hp and ac to survive the attack easily, you pet will automatically attack whom ever attacks you, thus killing the mob while you are afk.

This really only works well if you and your pet have a regen buff of say 20-30 mins, and as i said before you know the area of the zone will not lead to too many mobs attacking at once. Then you stand in that spot, mobs come by attack you, you do not get hurt bad b/c of your buffs and the regen repairs the damage between mob attacks. Thus while afk for 20-30 mins you gain exp, but not as much as if you were playing.

At level 2 in a newbie with a twink char and buffed and equiped pet, it could probably work you up a few levels with little risk and

I do not think there are many places this would work past level 35 or so. Aslo there are lots of risks. You could be killed by too many mobs on you, or you pet could easily die b/c it chases a fleeing mob and gets aggro from multiple mobs, then of course you would be next.

There is no real safe way to do this, and personally the risks outweigh the reward IMHO

AFK Leveling using the Leech method is horribly bad for your casting and melee skills. As a Necro, you should pride yourself on having a maxed out Defense and Offense, and at least one melee ability (1hb, Piercing) maxed out. AFK leveling will give you problems later on, depending on what level you are doing it at. While I was soloing in Dulaks, I let a guildie Ranger group with me and leech xp, but this was at level 50 and she didn't gain a level, so no problems there. Doing this at level 18 or so in Paludal Caverns is probably not the wisest idea.

Plus, don't you want to be there when you ding? I for one still get a lot of pleasure out of shouting 'DING! 51!' or whatever level it happens to be...espescially when I ding off of a completed quest in the PoK and get people asking 'How are you Xping on PoK?'

I used to play EQ years ago and i heard of necro AFK leveling. Back in the day pets used to aggro anything you aggro'd, anything you were kos to, the pet was kos to.

It used to be that a necro could FD and the pet would get aggro and kill stuff while you are afk, and at the very worst the pet dies and the necro is safe because he is FD. Of course this doesnt work now days because FD makes the pet poof after a few minutes and mobs dont aggro the pet anymore.

So maybe your necro friends were talking about this?

Back in the day when faction mattered i knew a necro who would park pet at npcs camp and then run to the guards far away and then sit. This would trigger mobs to attack his pet and in turn his pet would kill all the mobs and after time he would max his faction this way.Acourse this exploit was fixed years ago but a prime example of a game bug.
