So do you have a game that's crap, got crap reviews and you know it deserves it but for some reason some small part of the game makes it so worth while to you, you play and love it despite all it's flaws?
My Personal favorite is P.N.(Product Number) 5 for the gamecube. I love this game but it deserves it's crap reviews and general dislike of it. The rooms are repetitive, she steers like your rolling a fridge down the room, the story is cliche and predictable, and the trial mode could put some MMOs to shame for it's blatant grind.
However, for some reason the act of initiating her power moves and she goes into some dance like movement to activate her lasers of death just are so satisfying to me. Every time I activate them when I get the itch to go back and play this game I find myself impersonating them as best I can from a sitting position. The game is so satisfying to me becuase of it as I destroy waves of machines with those moves.
Anyone else have a game that they know it's **** and know they should hate it too but love it for some arbitrary reason?

I kinda felt that way about Journey of Dreams (the sequel to Nights into Dreams). I think the main reason is I just kept wanting it to be as good as the first.

Recent titles would have to go to Prey. While it received high marks mainly due to its graphics at the time (2006) the whole game was broken. I am not talking about combat or buggy, I am talking about death itself. In that game every time you die you appear in the spirit realm. You shoot some flying creatures to gain back some health and after a short bit of time you are brought back to your body. Every. Single. Time. You. Die. You are essentially immortal in that game, which honestly breaks the difficulty with a sickening crunch. That said it is an enjoyable shooter with one of the best shooter intro's by far.
When I was younger I absolutely loved Secret of Evermore which was a game you either loved or hated. I also loved some of the most horrible games on the market. I can't quite remember the names off the top of my head but they were pants on head retarded games for the snes.

Final Fantasy III (snes version). I keep that rom on my phone for instant gaming. I honestly don't know how many times I've beaten the game, nor do I care. I have fun getting all the espers and then grinding every character to full magic. Its fun for me.

FFVI (III for the SNES in the US) is rated near the TOP of all the FF games. That doesn't count as a Crap game with Crap reviews.
Now... Mystic Quest. I played the hell out of that game even though by most people's ratings it was a flop.

Speaking of, have you been to a Distant Worlds concert? I've been to two of them and that song has been one of the highlights both times.

I had a 2600 back when they dropped in price because the NES came out, I used to have around 30 games for it that I had bought at various rummage sales. I had that system late into my teens as well, when I finally sold it with the games, I think for around $50 (that was in the 90's)
I think I loved it because E.T. was the first movie I went to.

People say ET was the worst game ever made. Personally considering the time it was made I thought it was ok. I mean it was Atari 2600. Just the fact it actually had more than 1 screen and an ending put it ahead of alot of Atari games. Not saying it was a great game just saying there are FAR FAR worse games out there.

What's interesting about E.T. is that is was such a commercial flop, they took millions of unsold cartridges and buried them in a New Mexico landfill after the '83 video game crash. Although the burial itself might actually be an urban legend, the fact that E.T. was such a flop wasn't. It was one of the biggest commercial flops in history.

While I can't really say there's some obscure game out there that I like that nobody else seemed to, I think the closest would probably be FFX-2. Story may not have been that great, or what some would even expect, but I still say it was probably one of the series' best iterations of the ATB system.

It's been a long time for me too. I've developed the habit of waiting a year or two on games, and then cherry-picking the best titles.
Outpost was probably the last "bad" game that I really enjoyed. There was something addicting about it, despite the fact the manual was pure fiction and numerous promised features never actually made it into the released version of the game.

Much as I enjoyed 2, it certainly does have its mechanics issues. Meanwhile, I do have the first (or Alter Code F), but have yet to actually sit down and play it. Hell, I probably have a half dozen games collecting dust and I just ordered a couple more to treat myself to something nice for Christmas. x.x

2-7 were awesome , I played 1 (it was more of a fighting game) didnt like that one. 7 was awesome, a bit easy but I thought it flowed and had much improved gameplay, Orachi series is ok also. I really liked the Samurai Warriors series take on the system too. THe Gundam series I've only played the first and dear lord the bosses just had way to much HP, pretty much every fight was run in chipaway some health run out and wait til another opening happened, not sure about the later ones.
Otherwise Bard's Tale (Remake) I just get a kick out of the humor and sometimes the singing but the rest of the game is .... crap.
FFXIV 1.0 near the end after it was sort of fixed.
I was there when the servers went down, my little Lallafell dead on the ground in front of an enemy stronghold, when that final cutscene YouTube video was released.
I have high hopes for 2.0, based on what I've seen in official releases and leaks from alpha testers.

I don't have any guilty pleasure games. It also sounds like a Leisure Suit Larry title, by the way.
If a video game receives bad reviews then it's usually because the technical side of the game is ***, and I do not have the masochistic tendencies necessary to enjoy a bad game. I find that the difference between movie and video game reviews is that video game reviews focus a great deal on the technical quality of the product, where movie reviews focus on the emotional quality of the product. A movie critic might pan a movie that is technically impressive simply because the movie's story didn't appeal to him/her, and vice versa.
I think even the most hardcore fans of The Evil Dead can agree that the movies, technically, suck ***. They're still enjoyed by a lot of people because of their emotional (entertainment) value. It's harder to enjoy a video game that is technically crappy, though, because it becomes frustrating to play, and your immersion into the game's emotional side is broken whenever a glitch occurs, or you're forced to stare at horribly outdated graphics because console port.
I can enjoy a bad movie (Shoot 'Em Up), but I couldn't possibly enjoy a bad game. It just wouldn't be fun to play.
