I've been in an ES mood lately, and since the past two months have definitely turned up news worth discussing, I figured I might as well pass them on.

Obligatory new Skyrim DLC post.

It's called Dragonborn. It adds the ability to ride a f***ing dragon. If you need more reason to go for it than that, it's based in Solsthemheim, which people who played Bloodmoon might remember. Story is that an ancient Dragonborn (first Dragonborn?) became so powerful in his lifetime by "devouring" dragons that, now that the dragons have returned, he's trying to brake back into Mundus. Or something like that. Either way, it looks pretty awesome. And you can ride a dragon. You also get some of the Morrowind art in the Skyrim engine, which is also cool.

If you, like me, bought a PS3, tough luck. There's a good chance we'll never get any of the DLC. Bethesda says they're not going to stop trying, though.

Morrowind Overhaul 3.0 was released in September. There's also a project to port both Morrowind and Oblivion into Skyrim's engine, but don't expect that for a long while.

I will most definitely be playing some Morrowind this month...

Elder Scrolls Online has a good feature on Zam about two weeks ago. It definitely made me more interested in the game, though I don't know if I'm sold. It makes me worry WAY less about combat turning into a typical MMO system. But I'm still worried that we won't get the feeling of a massive world we can wander around picking flowers and running from bears.

Game is pre-alpha, release is apparently in 2013, and no news on whether they're going the sub or F2P route.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to reinstall Morrowind.

Played a lot of Skyrim during the hurricane and post-hurricane fallout. Even on PS3, and even without any DLC, I still think it's a stellar game. I keep coming back to it.

Just gotta get the Daedric weapons and "Restore the Thieves Guild" trophies to get the Platinum. Those'll take a while, though.

Gotta say, I've yet to be impressed by any of the DLC, even though I do wish I had access to it.

The Morrowind revamp looks interesting although I understand the models still look like *** (which is why they studiously keep the video to landscape shots).

Mine is always just laggy enough for it to be irritating. I haven't had it become unplayable for a few patches now, but there are times when I'm far too aware of the stuttering.

I don't care about Dawnguard all that much, but I am interested in both Hearthfire and Dragonborn. I'm seriously considering pirating a copy of Skyrim to see how well it'll run on my PC. If it's passable, I'll grab it next time there's a super sale.

Their own project only addresses the landscape, though there are plenty of body updating mods available that are good enough.

They also have a Game Experience mod that's essentially a huge mod pack. It has options for everything from character development to animations to adding squirrels (which are hilariously hi-res compared to the normal game).

If you want to update character models, though, you'll need something like Better Bodies and Better Faces. They do a good enough job to make it worthwhile. Until the Skyrim port is done, it's probably as good as we're gonna get.

Just imagine all the butterflies you can chase after while on the back of a dragon.

I hope eventually they invest some time into an official Skyrim online mode. I'd imagine it could work similar to Red Dead Redemption's.

Problem with that is when it comes to modding. If you require them to have a clean install in order to go online, you've really just slashed the appeal for a huge percentage of the PC gamers. And that's by far the easiest to organize, not having to deal with XBox Live or Sony.

Asthetic mods don't cause problems, so they could always release an "online" toolkit that's vastly limited.

But considering Skyrim wasn't built for multiplayer, that would be kinda hard. I can't see anything other than guesting really working.

[EDIT]

Oh, and with regards to that Morrowind mod pack, I think it actually DOES include body mods. Don't expect anything Skyrim level, but they're approaching Oblivion levels of weird.

It DOES definitely up the armor textures and polygon count, so that does a lot on its own.

Yeah, I just found a video of the before/after.

Really, it's not much worse than Oblivion, but it's better than some of the modern indie RPGs I've downloaded. Definitely in the tolerable range for me.

I can't find my game CDs. Smiley: madSmiley: madSmiley: mad

I'm not going to spend $20 just because I want to play it now. Guess I'm waiting for the next time it's on Steam sale, or for the discs to turn up. /sigh

I could pirate it, I suppose. But I don't know if I could get the overhaul mod to work. It's pretty specific on the fact that most digital versions of the game won't support it.

After reading this thread, I got the urge to play some Skyrim again. It appears they've made a few minor updates since the last time I played, including allowing you to ATTACK FROM HORSEBACK!!

What's better.

Skryim's "HD" DLC pack on Steam or the Texture pack mod on Nexusmods?

This, its cleaner looking, and doesn't cause fps issues like the 'official' textures imo.
