Vel's Lab location for drop
# Jul 11 2008 at 7:31 AM Rating: Decent
I just wanted to update a location for this spell drop. I opted to go to Vel's Lab and spent 3 hours trying to find the velium hunters/stalkers. We went all the way to the top of the ice ramps, we went all the way through to Vel's spawn and incurred half a dozen or so falling-related deaths... Then we found out where they were. You go about halfway up the ice ramps and then fall down it to the pits. Past or kill through the kobols, there is a pit with the hunters/stalkers and spectres. There were lots of spawns and it was easily taken care of with my guild (all 70+ except for me) but the spawns were fast and there were adds left and right. Careful, a few invis'd spiders in there and some mobs that see invis.

We got NWB on first drop and a few other spells off of other drops.

I don't care what anyone says about how powerful the Druid pet is, at least it obeys commands, unlike my Enchanter pet (prior to my getting the appropriate AAs).

Besides, Druids have the cutest pets in the game. I remember once I was doing an LDoN with two druids in the group. It was too cute, watching the tank go after the mob, then seeing the little bear cubs scamper into battle! A lot of use my stupid Chanter pet was, since I couldn't command him back then.

Too cute!

...i love how almost every post for almost every spell has some complete idiot who rants without having anything usefull to say. my druid has this spell and to be honest i wouldnt care if he was level 1...he is NOT a tank, he's a distraction like other's have mentioned. anyone who's ever played a casting class knows that spells get resisted, and if you're getting pounded by a mob its really hard to refresh snare/fear animal/root whatever it is that you need to do to save yourself (and possibly your group). just like on my necro "PETS ARE FREE DAMAGE AND EXPENDABLE" ...cast a pet, sit and med...boom you have full mana again AND a pet to help you if you get caught in a situation. damn i type alot im going to watch **** now and relax.

Just got my pet. He's green to me, so I can believe he's level 30. But I found I was able to cast buffs on him, such as SoE and Regrowth, that I'm not able to cast on players at that level. Cool! A floating bear! (Maybe I can make him into a pinata? :-)

Pet pulling?
# Jun 20 2005 at 9:05 AM Rating: Default
I know SK use their green pets to pull single mobs. Because the pet is green, it only aggroes the one it attacks and the other mobs ignore it. If this pet works the same way, it would be excellent for single pulls in indoor zones where harmony doesn't work. So, can anyone varify if you can use this little guy to single pull high level monsters?

In any event, the little guy is worth it in my opinion. Afterall, you only cast him once and from that point on he can do damage in any fight. In a group, even the little bear's damage helps kill the monster just a little faster.

I dont care what anyone says, I've waited 55 levels for my little bear, and I love him! Sure he cant take direct hits, but he does help, and I find that when I am in a group, he simply chears people up. He follows me around all shakey, and I give him scratches behind his ears. :)I love my little Jake! hehehehe

if you're having trouble locating this spell & don't want to pay an arm & a leg for it in the bazaar, it can also be researched. if you have a friend who can do it, it's trivial at 200. the items you will need are:

1. A Quill
2. A Piece of Parchment
3. Coin of Xev
4. Words of Tenancy

hope this helps Smiley: wink2

Well yes the pet sucks I'll give you that. It's sucks major wang. Your better off to wait til you hit 65 and get 27aa points and get Dire Charm and charm a lvl 46- mob in any zone with an animal. As a matter of fact you don't even have to wait till you get DC just charm something and when it wears off take a little dmg then land your charm on it again so see you've got a full time pet that just get's a litle mad at you sometimes lol. BTW the bear is lvl 30 and has about 3k hp with protection of nature pet haste and whatever buffs you can give it.

It is not meant to be a pet like a Shaman/Mage/Necro pet or Beastlord warder. Never has been. Those who think it is supposed to be and whine and cry do not understand the Druid class. If you really want a pet-roll a Mage/Necro/Beastlord/Shaman.

What it is is your "protector", much like an Enchanter pet. Enough to get a mob attention to get it off you so you can recover and regain control or gate out.

I will agree that when it comes right down to it, a DC pet kicks the crap out of all the castable pets.

FYI-with Ol' Boo Boo can be a pretty effective running DoT for aggro kiting.

I have heard people say that they would disband a druid who cast this, etc.... I also have heard others who liked the pet.

In my experience, with an sand eroded shell (mana free savage spirit) and decent buffs, the pet isn't bad. Sorta like a low level dot, but is controlable. Worse case, hes a speed bump. Personally, I always get him up. Even if he doesn't hit for much, he does occasionally land. Therefore, IMHO, hes worth the effort.

Besides.... Cubby is sooooo cute!!!!

I never disband a Druid, in fact, I like having them handy, and I always urge them to cast Booboo up and I pet toy them. I personally use the Gnollslayer shadowdog with my Ranger, and it's alot of fun. If I was in a group that disbanded the druid for casting the pet up, I'd leave as well, and form my own group with the druid. I have gone very far in the game relying on druid heals.

Just remember to stand up before sending in pet, so you don't get "Sic 'em" agro.

BTW, I've taken that cheesy Gnollslayer dog on a few raids as well. Terris Thule got chomped on by my cheesy pup, and lived to the end. Only take him if I happened to have him up all day, because the quest is a pain to do alot. Just shroud, and the pet supends, my Ranger has had the current clicky pet for about 2 months now.

Anyone who disbands a druid who casts this is disbanding the person that's going to save them from a wipe. How you gonna evac when your wizzy gets aggroed in an overpull (not that rare...everyone wants to do their part to help in a bad situation and a wizard can **** off those adds real easy just doing his part) or there's no wiz at all and your druid gets aggroed trying to keep people alive for that CH? Better hope SOMEONE has a back up plan!
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 14 2005 at 9:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Personally i disband druids because i don't like them, infact i don't invite them, they never helped me and i have never helped them. But just because the pet sucks isn't a good reason to disband.

just wanted to say the only reason you prob dont like druids is becuase you get the 12 year olds that play druids that dont understand the class well. druids are a easy class to learn one of the hardest to master

Personally, I've always thought of the bear pet was designed for that specific purpose. The tank dies, or looks like hes going to, so the druid starts casting succor. Tank drops, and booboo leaps in while the spell finishes casting.

The valiant bear sacrifices himself to save his master.

Does casting this pet require any components like other classes pets do?

No component needed.
Not too bad...

From what I can figure (by having people con him) this pet is about level 30 or so. The max I've ever seen him hit for is 36 points of damage, and he has about 400 h.p. unbuffed.

Obviously this pet was never intended to be your personal tank. Instead it just sort of clears up the bothersome stuff (such as spiders for farming in EK). With full buffage he can even solo an HHK guard without any help.
What the bear pet is for...
# Mar 31 2003 at 11:41 PM Rating: Default
The best use for this pet is for when snare is resisted and the mob runs after you. The bear has HUGE taunt, and will get the attention of whatever resisted your spell in short order. With the mob parked, you can resnare, and back pet off. Pretty nice security system if you ask me. Anyone that thinks this pet is for damage is a fool.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 30 2003 at 4:38 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well from what i have seen so far the pet is really sorry hehe... Every other class gets a good pet exept our class wtf? This is lame i got the spell from my guildies while they were raiding in growth. So if i were another druid i wouldnt waist my time on spending the money on it (. I wish sony would revamp our pet and make it usefull like maybe how the Shammy pet is usefull to them... oh well enough of my ******** take it easy...
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 24 2003 at 8:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Druid's aren't a pet class plain and simple, this bear CAN take the fall while you get some distance between you and a mob that has increased run speed. The main use I've seen the bear for is helping farm spider silks in the Karanas. If a druid ever summoned this thing in a group I'd disband him.

This is the bear that will give the druid the needed time to evac you...
This bear may not have much dps, may not have much hps... but when the druid needs a few secs more, this is the bear this is going to save your ******
If you disband a druid for casting this pet, I hope people see you for what you are.. a control freak.. and refuse to group with you in future..

lvl of Pet?
# Feb 21 2003 at 4:36 AM Rating: Decent
One thing I'm sure about on this spell is the exact lvl of the pet. Anybody that can tell me?
Bear
# Feb 21 2003 at 4:32 AM Rating: Decent
Yep, port into NK and the druid trainer there has a pet bear that's exactly what it looks like. The pet itself is rather weak and definately not as useful as pets other classes get, even enchater or cleric pets are better imo. This is not to say it is completely useless I have the spell myself. Many people will argue that you can put the mana used to summon and buff the pet to better use, but it's all a person to person basis. I do think the spell is overpriced, and yet I still bought it lol... anyway yeah I like the bear =)
RE: Bear
# Mar 23 2003 at 9:40 PM Rating: Decent
it's an excellent pet to be more usefull in groups it adds a litle bit of damage and if not send in straight away it won't get agro that easily.

Its summons a small bear pet like the ones you see in the Karanas ;)
