This shared task starts with Bethun Brewbeard in The Eastern Wastes Coldain camp in the southeastern corner of the zone at -2455, -2282, -4.
You say, 'Hail, Bethun Brewbeard'
Bethun Brewbeard says, 'Hail there. It is good to see you adventurers back on Velious again. We could sure use your [help].'
You say, 'help'
Bethun Brewbeard says, 'I've been a scout for my people for a few years now. I volunteered to help out, much to the chagrin of my [uncle]. My task has been to keep an eye on the Ry'Gorr in case they build an army and start to take some offensive actions. Of course, now there isn't any way for me to warn my people and they should be safe no matter what those smelly orcs get up to. But other people out here won't be. And I have indeed seen some [strange things] happening in their fort.'
You say, 'uncle'
Bethun Brewbeard says, 'Grimthor? Yeh, he wanted me to take over his part of the bar when he retired. He assumed it would be the best thing for me. Well, uncle, not everyone wants to stand in sticky beer puddles all day long. Some of us want to go outside and do things. Do interesting things!' Bethun pauses and takes a deep breath. `Sorry, I get carried away. My uncle was pretty mad when I took up working for the scouts. I've learned a lot and they seem to think I'm good at my work, so I volunteered to stay out here after the lockdown. I'm pretty sure uncle Grimthor is still mad about it.'
You say, 'strange things'
Bethun Brewbeard says, 'Well, things other than most of them being taken over and turned into undead monsters by whatever is happening around here. They have a new leader, a very strong orc that has some sort of control over the ice near him. It's scary to watch what he can do. I worry that he might be able to break into Thurgadin with his power. If you are willing to [lend a hand], I would really like to destroy that orc before its too late.'
You say, 'lend a hand'
Bethun Brewbeard says, 'That is a kind offer that I will certainly take you up on. Just let me know when you and your friends are [ready]. You do have friends, right? I wouldn't try to tackle this beast with anything less than a [small] army, though I would prefer a [large] one.'
You say, 'small'
Bethun Brewbeard says, 'We'll make do. Thanks for your help, just let me know when you are [ready] and we will get going.'
You have been assigned the task 'Griklor the Restless'.
Bethun Brewbeard is worried about the power of an orc called Griklor. Apparently, he became unnecessarily dangerous after his death. She would like you to re-kill him. Beware, he apparently can control the weather and the undead.
Defeat Griklor the Restless. 0/1 (The Eastern Wastes)
Griklor can't be targeted at first. He flies over the ruins, sometimes emoting:
Griklor the Restless roars and points at _____.
Their is two Auars a Large Red one and a smaller white circle - its the Smaller Circle you need to get into.
one of the secrets is to know when the mob has passed and wither of not to run after it or run the other way so its travlijng to you.
That player has to run into the aura below Griklor. If successful, you get this emote:
Griklor the Restless tries to control his mount as shards of deadly ice strike it.
Griklor also casts Cutting Icefall, an AE Rain spell that does significant damage. To prevent damage, gather around Bethun Brewbeard:
Bethun Brewbeard shout, 'Gather! This fire should protect you from the sleet!
Their are Logs in the circle and one will have a Aura it will protect you from the Sleet.
After a few times, Griklor gets to the ground and starts attacking, he hits for 47k.
You will also have to fight adds, a haunted Ry`Gorr. They hit for 30k. They can be mezzed and are immune to snare/root.
We just timed the start so we sat on the west side of the fort and never moved (until it came time for Bethun Brewbeard's circle for the sleet). Each emote and his flight path would bring him right onto us while we fought.
Posted by Alnitak on the EQ forums, I found this very useful:
Some numbers to consider for that mission: Grilkor has about 89 mil HP ( calculated by GameParse 2.0 beta) He hits about 47K HP per hit, adds hit 30-32K hP per hit. Unmitigated values. After first landing Grilkor will lift off in about 32-35 seconds if his health is higher than 30%. My several failures (which I abort if he lifts off, showed that I did max 58-59 mil hp, no failure with 60 mil damage done) Basically - you need to burn off 60 mil hp under 30 secs. This is a DPS benchmark to make, 2 mil DPS. Main tank is a BST warder, he has plenty of AC/HP to tank Grilkor, but has serious problems holding aggro. Adds (usually 3-4 orcs) are completely ignored during burn. The fight happens just inside the fort wall near Bethun. Once Grilkor is dead the chest spawns. My 3 toons have a macro hitbutton with two lines /target Bethun and /say leave . Usually all 3 toons leave the missions unharmed. Spawned orc adds deaggro and go back to their huts. Chest remains at Bethun. Now I get time to form a proper group by /taskadd all of my alts/friends or whoever. Zone back into the mission and open the chest without a fight. Don't leave the instance unpopulated for more that a few mins - it may collapse. If you have a plated tank you can dispatch the adds after the Grilkor death with ease.
1.) Start the mission by saying the keyword to the dwarf right when he's above the dwarf. 2.) Stand slightly up the hill to the right of the entrance above the tree. From memory, there's an ice chunk or something right on the side of the hill to help with a reference for the positioning.
Once you get that worked out correctly with the positioning, there's hardly any running around to do. The emotes and pathing work out so you can just stay in the one spot and kill the adds while he flies around and you end up in the right spot for triggering the emote without having to chase around after him.
I'm lazy, I do it with just my paladin and a merc healer. I start my burn when he first drops down off of his mount and he goes up once. I kill the adds and he drops down a 2nd time. He dies and I kill the rest of the adds. Don't even really have to move.
I would assume level 100 since it shows that in the quest info on the left above and the overall info says: "All quests in Torment of Velious are level 100 required." and no one has posted other wise. So the level 96 you have is out of luck
So, just some notes about our experience learning the task...
Whomever Griklor emoted, if that person ran under him twice, he dropped for us. By running under him, I mean we got under him and followed the ring til the emote happened, which was pretty fast. First we got the rain AE, then him. May be a pattern, maybe just how it happened to us. We weren't good about getting to safe spot from rain AE. The ae rain spell wasn't that bad. Group heals seemed to handle it pretty easily. Chanter group runes seemed to help. The adds seemed to be about 2 minutes apart once he started calling them. They are indeed mezzable. He can drop while you are fighting an add or have one mezzed. If you have enough dps, this should be a trivial event. Just eat the adds as they pop, get Grik to ground fast as possible, and whammo. Good luck!
