NOTE: THIS TASK IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN GAME.
For an overview of Veil of Alaris pre-launch events, see this quest entry.
This is a pre-launch task leading up to the Veil of Alaris expansion, expected to be available only for a certain period of time ahead of VOA's launch.
It begins with a gnome named Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle in the Steamfont Mountains. She's found in the far southeastern part of the Steamfont Mountains (location -1415, -1475, 5 -- in the back area of the work site).
You say, 'Hail, Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle'
Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle says 'Hello there. I am Chief Smelter Whistle. Basically that means that, for this project at least, I am responsible for all metal work. That turns out to be a rather complicated task, for which I need a lot of [help].'
You say, 'Help?'
Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle says 'We have a lot of workers and engineers on the project, but there is a lot to do. There is a lot more metal in a dirigible than most folks know. And it has to be special metal in most cases. We need agents to find what we need. If you aren't here just to site see, then you might be interested in doing a few [tasks] for me.'
You say, 'What tasks?'
Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle says 'We have a lot that needs doing.'
A task window pops up with two tasks to choose from.
You have been assigned the task 'Guidance Systems - Front Fin'.
The great ship will have a fin on the front to help keep it stable. However, it will need to be strong and as light as possible. As you might have expected, the engineers seem to know exactly what they would like to use as materials. Heavy tubing can be found in the strongest and lightest form in the Plane of Innovation. Despite their names, the tin soldiers are not entirely made of tin, and they might have the tubing we need. Yttrium sheets should be strong enough and light enough to use as the web of the gin. Gather some ore for the engineers to make the fin with.
Find a Segment of Heavy Tubing to be repurposed for a guidance fin 0/1 (Plane of Innovation)
Most tin soldiers are found inside the factory of the plane (an Xanamech Nezmirthafen kill may be required to open the front door), however there are a few spawns out front.
Collect 1 Small Brick of Yttrium Ore 0/1 (ALL)
Yttrium Ore is known to drop from Taskmaster shissar in the basement of Ssraeshza Temple, worms in the Akheva Ruins, named mobs in Grieg's End, thought horrors in the Deep, and sun revenants in the Grey.
Hand the Yttrium Steel Sheet to any smelting engineer 0/1 (Steamfont Mountains)
He needs the ore (not a sheet). On hand-in:
The smelting engineer was pleased with the items you brought.
