We go through great efforts to keep this city not only clean, but extremely safe as well. Have you ever wondered about the lengths to which we have to work to maintain the safety of a city as fine as this? You say, 'to what lengths' Examiner Malikin says 'We have to work with great diligence and determination to maintain the security of this sanctum. There are elements that are set on defiling our work here. These antagonists seem to prefer attempts at corrupting people from within our ranks. Weak minds are inevitable, so corruption is unavoidable. That is why the Eye is necessary. We are not here to pry or spy on anyone. We simply maintain the security of our sanctum and weed out any unsavory elements. If you're interested in learning more about the Eye, I can assign you a simple task or two. You say, 'what is the eye' Examiner Malikin says 'The Eye keeps us informed of all that goes on beyond the walls. They are responsible for security and purity inside the walls as well. They also monitor the other three Praesertum. You say, 'what simple task' Examiner Malikin says 'Simple tasks go a great distance to establish trust. I may know of someone who can help you to establish yourself within the ranks of the Eye. If you are interested in performing a task of that nature I can get you started at this time. Would you like to begin? You say, 'I would like to begin' Examiner Malikin says 'Very well, Melrik. Please, take this coin to Percontorius Ontu. She will advise you on your next course of action. There is a decided lack of direction in this matter, for a member of the Eye should always be able to find people. This will be good practice for you. Take care. I hope to speak to you again soon. The coin that I handed you has great value. That value is obvious in the fact that the coin is made of a precious metal and carries with it more weight than a standard coin. That said, you did not take the coin for your personal gain. You simply carried out your purpose. The fact that you can be trusted has earned you that coin. Do you understand the meaning of the task now? You say, 'I understand the meaning of the task' Examiner Malikin says 'Very good, for I have another task to offer you if you would like to continue. This one is a bit more complicated. Im sure that you can handle it, but I need you to be sure as well. I need this to be a surprise. Do you think that you are prepared to handle an issue that will require both stealth and secrecy? You say, 'I am prepared' Examiner Malikin says 'Please take the coin that I have just given you and find my friend, Consis Sinsolus. He can often be found walking in one of the park areas. I'm beginning to believe that he has a mild infatuation with trees. Please take the coin that I have given you and slip it into my friend's left coat pocket. When you do so, please remove the coin that you will find in his pocket and bring it to me. Accomplish this task without error and I may have a special task for you. Take care not to get caught. I used sneak for this part but not sure it's necessary. Your Location is 673.96, 774.32, 59.13 Hand the heavy coin to Consis and receive a Mark? or Coin? of the Hand if I remember right. Consis Sinsolus turns to look at you for a moment, but does not apprear to notice that you made the swap. That sort of trust is commendable. The Eye is looking for people like you. We need people who display not only integrity, but trust. Trust in our purpose here and you will do well. Our means may seem a bit harsh at times, but we are here to protect our people from an enemy whose methods are without honor. It is one of those very attacks on our people that I will need your help with at this time. You say, 'what can I do to help with the attacks' Examiner Malikin says 'We have found evidence that there is a traitor within the ranks of one of the other Praesertum. We need you to help us remove this traitor and his contact in Katta Castellum. You will need to take this poison and pour it into our target's ear while he sleeps. You say, 'what is the name of the target' Examiner Malikin says 'The traitor's name is Ornis Tranum. You should be able to get into his house with little to no resistance. Just be sure to take care when entering and leaving the building. We do not need to bring attention to the Eye in this matter. Once you have poured the poison into Ornis' ear, he will be unable to move. Just place the coin that you took from Consis on Ornis' body and leave. Bring me the empty poison vial, so that I can be sure that no evidence was left behind. Once that is done, we can deal with his contact. I went invis and entered his house. then handed both the coin and poison to Ornis Tranum, but you can hand them in seperately and it still works. so this can get off if someone does part out of order. Ornis Tranum gasps suddenly and then falls still. This time the target is a guard within Katta Castellum. His name is Erallic. Find him when he is asleep after a guard shift and kill him. Be sure to bring me the empty vial and be careful. They will have guards posted. Stealth is key in this matter. Take care. Sit at location 178.00, -1944.00, 31.13, that's where he will suddennly POP to. I was at his post and he suddenly POPPED to his bed. Hand him the poison. Legionnaire Erallic gasps silently for air and then falls completely still! No one seems to have heard you. i did this in about an hour very easy as a 27 half elf druid, found everyone with ease using maps/locs then used self port to twilight when to katta (i boud myself to malikin) no one person was kos to me

I have never had any problems getting from the Wizard Gate point in the Twilight Sea to the Katta dock. I don't antagonize the elementals on my way, but nothing has ever bothered me. So if you can gate or get ported to the Twilight sea, just swim to Katta. I go this way when I run the Rallic Pack quest. Once I'm in Katta, I just Lesser Evacuate myself and it saves me the long walk up to the T. Mountains entrance. I don't like heights....
Crossing the mountains from Grimling is pretty hairy sometimes, and invis does not always help. When I was a wee young Wizard, I wandered into a camp of Sonic Dire Wolves there and lost an entire level getting my corpse back. Of course that was a long time ago and now and the rules have all changed.

Ran this as a Level 6 Bard. Used the Hollowshade, Grimling, Tennebrous route. Was a piece of cake. Those zones don't seem as populous as they once were. Didn't use sneak, hide or invis. Just ran. I was a bit faster than a normal runner but not nearly as fast as SoW. The key I think is not being indecisive. Know the territory you're going to run through. If you get tenative or lost you'll probably die. Nice item for an untwinked newbie. Now if I could just find away to tone down this quested armor. I look like a neon lime popsicle.
Anyone have a clue as to the net result on faction after doing this quest?

OK. I did this tonight as a halfling druid. I never used sneak and waited at the bed loc in the post for Erallic and he popped after about 10-15 min. Good Quest!!

The last poison vial is NORENT! I didn't notice this, and had to start the quest over from the top!

With the new Druid Rings of Twilight and Dawnshroud you really cut the travel time on this quest when you have to go to Katta Castellum and back. My 30th level Druid did this quest in a few hours - could have done it faster but had a hard time finding Examiner Malikin at first. Very Easy quest with the new Ring Spells. If you are a druid, don't do this quest untill you have bought the new Luclin Ring spells. Didn't get killed once! :)

OK, Sanctus Seru was a breeze. It's getting to Katta that's impossible. Atleast without a reliable invis. I died in Fungus Grove hardcore - got rooted and wasn't able to move until I died. Then I decided I'd try the Grimling-Tenebrous route. The old hug-the-edge-of-the-zone tactic didn't work when I finally made it into Tenebrous - many creatures walk along the zone edge! One of them killed me.
Being a lvl 22 BST, it will difficult if not impossible to get my corpse back.

i did this with a lvl 8 enchanter. going thru the grey. the bst that was with me got munched because she got turned around. but, i never had a problem. Now i find that you can go thru grimling forest and tenebros mountains. MUCH easier. I have run this quest several times thru the grey, and with my new little bard (lvl 9), i am going to run thru the new route. I'm just hoping that the faction won't get me killed in katta....this is my first non-gating class, and i NEED this zone for my songs.

I am now doing it with a 19th bard, I ran very fast through Grimling and Tenebrous, with luck I'll make it back. At present have waited 30 mins for the Legionnaire to spawn.

Which is better to Katta Castelum if you don't have invis: The Echo-Fungus-Twilight route? or the Grimling Forest-Tenebous route?
I'm a beastlord and know that a generous invis will always crap out when you need it anyway.

As a Vah Shir I have sneak, but I wonder about Fungus Grove and Echo Caverns - can you get through there without invis and not get aggroed?
I don't think you can make it through Fungus Grove that way, I'd buy an invis potion or 3. Sneak only works well when you are behind or to the side of a mob, at least with my Vah Shir Beastlord.

Started the quest this evening. (23 Beasty) I approached the Arena by travelling south along the west wall of the city and entering the Arena from the southern entrance. I was conning EVERYONE since some of these posts got me nervous.
With this route, I never saw this feared Dwarf. The first time through, everyone was indifferent, then after the first coin exchange, a few were apprehensive. After the second coin exchange (with Consis) some were back to indifferent and others remained apprehensive.
The faction messages posted in the walkthrough tip you off as to whose who.
I camped after this.

I did this quest today with my lvl12 druid on the new server. there are a few answers to your questions:
finding Examiner Malikin: you have to go west. if you bump to a wall and there seems to be no way around to the loc given simply go out of the section you are in and try to go in a big circle. the city is like cubicles where some of them share the same wall but no passage.
Loc to sleeping beauties: all the locs given in the quest explanation and the posts are true. because the guys you have to poison pop on random beds. so you have to run around checking all the beds near given locations.
and erallic is NOT in SS.. he is in Katta Castellum. if you read Malikins speech carefully you ll see that he says:
"This time the target is a guard within Katta Castellum. His name is Erallic. "
so the loc given in explanation is true... kinda... again you have to check all the beds in the building to find him.
and a side note: you can cross the grey with a lvl12 druid if you have fish scales. but be careful as some of the mobs see invis and when they are trained to any location they do not go back to their paths unless they aggro on someone else. be sure to con every mob you will pass by to see if he is rdy to attack and you ll be ok.

I have looked all over Sanctus Seru look for the start NPC of the quest The Eye of Trust. As you know his name is Examiner Malikin. help please

Just a tip - whatever you do, don't jump in the pool in Sanctus Seru for fun to increase your swimming skill. You can't get out of this pool! And no ... looking up while swimming at the edge didn't work. I had to drown myself and make the trek from Shar Vahl to get my corpse.

Not true. I got out. Look up and swim. Takes a little time, but i does happen.
BS, I dont even know why you posted this. As a Vah Shir Shaman I was running from vendor to vendor buying up all the 20+ level words for my Necro and fell into this pool. Freaked me at first, but when I got my bearings I headed back North (my original aim) looked up when I reached the edge and and popped right out with no problem. Just like where the Nexus drops you off in Shadow Haven, I see dead bodies and hear complaints all the time, but I swim right out everytime.
He posted this because the Vah Shir and Iksar have better swimming then the rest of us. As a 53 druid who has a swimming skill of 200, I BARELY got out with the aid of a SoW. Without a SoW, I would bounce a bit, but never actually made it out. My Barbarian Beastlord had to get the help of a GM to get out. This pool is a trap, and the one in Shadowhaven by the zone in has ONE spot where you can get out and ONLY one.

Not BS. There are a couple of pools in Sanctus that you simply cannot get back out of. I suggest you try swimming in all of them before you flap your stupid mouth at people who are simply stating a warning to non-gaters.

BS for sure. I went to these pools with 20 swimming skill. Be patient. Try harder. No need to get anry. My barbarian will show you if you need help young one.

So I guess you're the only one that knows how to swim. And I suppose you can only get out of water if you are headed in your "original aim."
There are two possibilities here: 1. This is a bug that happens to someone every now and then and you have been lucky enough to avoid it. (or) 2. Eventhough people successfully swim and get out of water in Norrath all the time, they somehow forget how to do it in these particular pools (And you are master of swimming).
Trust me people ... just avoid the pool.

You can climb out of the pool in Shadowhaven, just go to the north of where you zone in from the Nexus, on the cross piece, there my be a specific location where you can climb out of the pools in Seru, I wasn't lucky enough to find one though, I had to drown, but I had my swimming go up first

This loc is wrong...Ornis Tranum is found lying in a bed at -1266, 897. You give him the vial of poison and nothing happens. Then, you give him the coin, you get the empty vial back, plus a small amount of exp. I don't have invis, but I did use sneak, just in case...but, I don't think that that is even necessary.

I appreciate that you posted corrected location. I wanted to do this quest on my paladin, and I was having a heck of a time finding this mob. This mob looks like a human wearing plate armor.

i searched for 3 hours last night in sanctus seru for examiner malikin and couldnt find him can someone post his loc

I was having issues locating him as well, but I found him finally. His loc is -1572, 27, 10. He is near the arena on the west side. YOu have to go all the way north and then to the middle section and back track to the arena to find him. I hope this helps you out.

Even if you have mad invis skills, an item with Enduring Breath, whatever, DON'T GO THE ROUTE THRU THE GREY! There are some NASTY mobs running around there, and dashing for your corpse while racing against your breath meter SUCKS. I had this happen (got clobbered by a boulder fiend or two out of nowhere, before I could even FD); I got lucky and had my bod near the SD zone, but I had to go the long way around to even get it back, much less complete the quest.
Play it safe, and go the "long" way; you'll be happier, I almost guarantee.

Just wondering if I'm KOS to the Heart of Seru will the Examiner KOS me too? The Hand of Seru is dubious to me, but when I zoned into SS the Legionares killed me at the line????

I just did this quest last night. Was a wonderful break from mindless killing of monsters. It helped me get a bit more familiar with Seru and Katta and all that lie in between. And it's very easy to do, with travel, and finding the NPCs being the only troublespots.
Nice little item for a night of stretching one's legs.
