Been hunting these mammoths for a bit with my 30 Necro and found they drop something called Winter Lilly quite often. Anyone know what this is for?

I'm a 23 Human Warrior and with Temp and a few shammy buffs, I had no problem soloing these, even the ones that conned red to me. I actually soloed a red and yellow at the same time. I think groups of 20ish toons should have no trouble at all with these and the tusks would make great loot. Assuming someone has a container with giant slots and massive weight reduction, of course. All the mammoths I killed spawned between Permafrost and the Wayfarer's Camp. Best place I have found to look for them. Hope it helps!

missing mammoths
# Jun 11 2004 at 4:44 PM Rating: Decent
My main is a 42 barbarian roque, so naturally everfrost peaks is my backyard. I used to hunt mammoths there everyday, but now I haven't seen a mammoth there in over 2 weeks (nameless server). Has anyone else on any other server noticed the missing mammoths?

I went to Everfrost to hunt wolly mammoths with my level 25 Ranger.(Povar Server)

I could find 2 on track only, but they were stuck in side hills where I couldn't reach them. There were none others on track amd I ran all over the zone.

Bugged?

Quite often, bored high-level folks at the Everfrost Wayfarers camp will kill any mammoths that pop for both their mammoth meat (handy for tradeskills) and tusks (sell for 10 pp apiece to merchants), which can cause no mammoths to be up for a minute or two at a time, until someone kills another placeholder. If you have a lot of folks in EF, overkilling may be why you don't see any mammoths running loose.

these are great for tusk at 10pp+ each if u can get a mage to summon some bags for u even better solo fron 22 to 29 exp pretty much stops after that but since ldon at ruins now high lvls kill for fun and pp makes them few and far between better off for lvling to go to pc ldon spoiled a lot of good hunting in this zone sorry to say hard to even get a ice giant camp now but ldon has its pluses too i would prefer they left low level mobs to people that need it.

If wooly mammys are so hard to kill, why exactly do the 3rd Gate quests in Neriak offer one requiring a tusk so early? (Can you get the same tusks off the calves?) I'm only a lvl 4, and I already have a quest requiring 4 Kerra Isle Beetle eyes and a tusk.

(I don't own the game so... yay for making lvl 4! lol)

Oh man, these guys are wonderful. Took me bard here the other day, and had a field day. I did some of the gimpiest bard kiting ever (bellow and running) but still killed alot of these guys. So great for anyone who can kite, wonderful loot and good xp.
spawn point
# May 06 2003 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
I noticed these fellas spawn around the following coordinates. Maybe it can help some: 2046, -5628.

I saw several appearing on my tracker all of a sudden close to this point and i even saw one fall out of the sky here.

Good luck hunting them y'all.

I would say you should definitely check out the neighborhood as Mammoths are reason enough to move in. Consider that they are decent XP to my 29 Ranger and using Root/DoT/Snare/nuke/ranged then Panic Animal when root breaks is like money in the bank, which is also very good @ 10pp per tusk (killed 6, got 5 tusks - amiable faction in Halas CHA 135). The only thing that is a problem is that the tusks do not fit into your backpack so plan ahead and leave some open Inv slots if Mammy-hunting is on the agenda (anyone know if you can get or make a backpack that this will fit into?). At lower levels I used to hunt the calves and give the grown-ups a pass since they conned red (as they will do to your lvl 15 char), and they do aggro so be careful if there are a few about. Once you are ready for them I highly recommend them.

I have not worried about coords too much since I can track but they definitely are more abundant in the Eastern part of Everfrost.

The tusks are giant sized, so while they don't fit into backpacks they do fit in most combinable containers like sewing kits. Will also fit into Rallic Packs.

Soloing mamms
# Apr 13 2003 at 9:54 PM Rating: Decent
I made lvl 20 (barbie shammy) 2 days ago and have started taking out the mamms solo. It's a bit time consuming because root doesn't always last long or even take (resist probably 1/2 the time). But you can do it. As mentioned previously, you root, dot, run like stick, root, dot, run with the occasional spirit strike. But stay away from Tundra Jack cause he will kill them off you (sometimes good) but not when you have almost done them in!
Gotta love those Mamms
# Apr 12 2003 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
As a Level 32 Paladin, most Wooly Mammoths still con Dk Blue (with the occasional Lt Blue) to me. The XP is good, the kills are easy even when a second one jumps in and the money is great! I've been hunting them since level 26 and have made nearly 3k in pp, probably more 'cos I bought some stuff along the way. EP is a safe place to hunt too without fear of getting bushwhacked by Griffins, Giants, Spectres or whatever.

Here's a TIP: invest in two Opal Encrusted Steins - they will raise your Charisma by 25 points each. With a base Char of 85, I was only offered 6-7pp per Mammy Tusk from the Vendors...with 135 Char, I now get over 10pp each! A 10 Giant slot Deluxe Toolbox to hold all those tusks is also a good investment ;)
A lot more good players than bad ones

I had my 25 Druid kiting mammoths last night. I have found that when 2 players cast and the others cast draws aggro I have no problem letting that player take it and some were kind enough to return the favor. I do have a problem when a 22 Warrior starts attacking any mammoth that is low on health. This female barbarian was soloing and managed to get a lot of players mad at her for going after others kills. Lots of shouts back and forth and after 2 hours of playing she still did not get it. There were some higher level players that came to my aide, some gave me buffs and some gave me advice on casting and kiting. I always return the favor to others and have no problem SOWing others and giving skin like steel, strength of earth and a damage shield when mana permits. This is on the MT server.

Great xp for a 25 Druid
# Feb 20 2003 at 2:10 PM Rating: Decent
As a 25 Druid I can solo these very easily. I just sit and mana up while the dot's do their stuff. I can usually take 3 (singles) in a row before I have to go to the platform and sit and mana back up again. Last night I was on for 3 hours, the first hour and a half I made 96 pp, the second hour and a half nothing but rib bones and nothing from the wooly spiders either. I made 4 bubbles in level 25 - great xp for a 25 Druid.
Hunting mammoths
# Feb 18 2003 at 2:08 PM Rating: Good
At 40 or 41 I was running out to visit a friend camping the Ice Giants and ran across a blue and a light blue mammoth. It was fun to kill them for old times sakes... I killed many a mammy between lvl 19 and 34 :).They were probably the corrupted or tainted ones.

I hunted the regular mammoths for experience until lvl 34, and most of them were dark blue to me.

Tusk drops are streaky. I've gone through stretches where 2 out of 3 mammies have tusks, and stretches where only 1 out of 5 or 6 have tusks.

If there are three groups out there hunting it can get crowded. I detested rangers and druids when I was trying to hunt mammoths... until I became friends with a druid and ranger :).

One secret someone told me, and it seems to be true, is that spiders are place holders for mammoths. Kill spiders and within 3-5 minutes either another spider or a mammoth will spawn.

The bonus of killing the spiders is you get silks and poison components. The poison components sell for a few gold or make a rogue friend happy and give them the poison :).

I kill mammoth calves ocassionally for the calf hides. If I see a Barbarian rogue around I'll give them the hides for a faction quest, or eventually turn them in for a wee bit of exp, faction with my guild master, and a few plat from the armor. Is that wrong?

The calf hides aren't only used for faction. There is a cool looking BAR/ROG only armor that they get back from guild trainer after turn in. It's not the very best armor a BAR/ROG can use, but looks pretty cool until they can get better. Any lowbie rogue who knows about the quest, but can't quite kill the calves themselves yet, will love you if you give them a few hides to turn in.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 01 2002 at 6:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hey LOSERS! Quit killing all the mams. If you are over level 30 and you're still hunting these then YOU ARE A LOSER. Quit ruining the game for everyone. How would they like it if a bunch of level 20's camped the halas ramp and all around it killing everything in sight. Verant would probably do something about that! Here's what I would do, experience PENALTY for killing greens unless they aggro you. And the higher you are, the higher the penalty. That would stop these LOSERS!
RE: LOSERS!
# Nov 21 2004 at 7:28 PM Rating: Decent
I would say some flaming nice stuff about that, be it not 2 years old. a)You still get decent xp for mammoths after 30, b)not everyone's killing mammoths just for tusks c) everyone hunts wherever they want. of course it isn't that nice if ur lvl 50+ and mass kiting these around, but at lvl 30 these guys are good, plus some nice loot.....so stop calling others a loser, cuz maybe you're one yourself, hmmmm?

# Apr 10 2003 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
Look at the ignorant fool above. You can get xp at 33 because half the mammoths are still blue. If you can't track then camp the spawn points like most non-trackers do. Rangers are the most highly successful at tracking and killing mammoths. Druids have to use all their mana then med or root rot the slow way. Bards track is laughable, they can't even judge distance. Rangers can track them down quickly then fear/snare then kill, kill, kill all day.

I'd say if you were 36 or above camping the mammoths then you are stupid when you can hunt hill giants for cash and exp.

Mage
# Sep 10 2002 at 5:00 PM Rating: Decent
The majority of them conned red to my level 20 Mage, but were fairly easy to defeat. I used a Fire Elemental pet equipped with a Spear of Warding and casted Renew Elements whenever it's HP went down a bubble. Just had to make sure I had full mana before fighting one... they hit pretty hard (especially if your pet dies). I also carried 4 Dimensional Pockets for the tusks. :)

Anyone over 40 caught farming these things for cash is a loser and ruining the hunts of lots of more appropriate leveled players.

I can't tell you how many times I've gotten to EF and found 51st level players pulling 3 or 4 at a time, leaving none for the rest of us. You can't tell me that a level 51 can't do better than mammoths for plat. Giants in Rathe have to be better.

Anyway, share the wealth, and don't be a loser
RE: High Levels Go Away
# Sep 06 2002 at 1:50 PM Rating: Good
The reason high levels are hunting these is because they most likely need the meat for their baking. At least 9 times out of 10 that is the case. Merchants do not sell this meat anywhere unless it is sold to them, and if they need it then they will obtain it. Sure they can offer pp per stack of meat but it would actually be faster to kill em themselves. So please don't think all are just being greedy. They would most likely prefer to be getting EXP rather than hunting greens.
RE: High Levels Go Away
# Sep 30 2002 at 7:07 PM Rating: Default
Your reasoning is sound but wouldn't be easier and A LOT faster for a higher lvl character looking for mammoth meat to kill the more plentiful mammoth calf? They are lower level and as there are only a few wooly mammoths in the zone. Just a question.

True, but most people do not like collecting ingredients for tradeskills and want to get it done with asap. If I see a mammoth, it's going down. If people want exp, they can have the kill. All I want is the meat (ingredient for Halas pies)

So were is this EW anyway? This page only shows Everfrost as the home for Mammoth's. I just hit 32 and I hate having to sit around waiting for the one’s that con blue to me, not so desperate as to go after greens yet even though I AM collecting the meat! Being a recreational player I get lost in the Acronyms quite often. EW mean’s what? I want to hunt and get experience as well!

Thanks,
Tad

Update:
Found EW (Eastern Waste) in Velious! Wow, I did not see anything con green to my 32 Ranger. Lots of Blues and reds and a few yellows. The darn Frost Giants wander everywere and agro me big time! Still great hunting here. Havent seen the Mammy's on the POK port side but killing the Blue and yellow wolves is good enough now anyway. The Wooly's here are 32-38 which is a bit high for me to enjoy yet. At 34 I will go looking for them!
