Cycle spawn
# Feb 01 2003 at 2:25 PM Rating: Default
This one is a tuff one. He nearly got me twice. Had to run away from his casting area and heal up. Its crowded where he spawns, so naturally I got some giant and burynai adds. Im a lvl 44 dru and he conned light blue to me, think that is underrated. He got some nasty spells, and cast alot.

*Glad I can root and run =)

the cycle

this is a nice item for ranger paladin cleric. The grand cenobite is not part of the sarnak cycle. I have been running the cycle from time to time since level 38 of course i am a druid which makes it easier. He is also a very rare spawn i have run the cycle over 50 times and today was the first time i have seen him. Also if we who know the cycle tell everyone can you just imagine how crowded it would be.

was running the cycle as a 40 bard kiting (selo, fufil, chant of flame), but when i saw this guy on track as a dk blue, i knew to stay away. because of the nukes which he stops chasing (approx every 10-20 seconds in my experience) which hit me for sometimes over 200 dmg. Basically to take this guy down you'll need a tank and cleric, end of story. Unless you're a lot higher level than this glorified badger, of course.
Spawn?
# May 20 2002 at 8:45 PM Rating: Default
Last night, we spent 5 hours working the cycle, never saw the Grand Cenobyte pop. We had four groups, one each in the SE and SW, and two in the NW (to ensure we could take out the Grand Cenobyte).

Has anyone figured the spawn time? Supposedly he pops after Goblinstomper is killed in the SW. Well we killed Goblinstomper three or four times during the cycle, but never saw the Grand pop. We had trackers in each group too, so I doubt we missed him. Any comments pls, cause I'd like to try this again.
RE: Spawn?
# May 27 2002 at 5:03 PM Rating: Default
he's part of the Sarnak cycle, not the gobby/burynai/giant cycle. (Yes, there are TWO cycles going on in FM)
RE: Spawn?
# Jun 19 2002 at 5:17 PM Rating: Default
Yes, I know there are two cycles. But I believe you're incorrect about the Grand Cenobyte being part of the Sarnak cycle. I have not found any information which supports that.

On the contrary, I have found volumes supporting the fact that he is part of the Gobbie/Giant/Burynai cycle. And specifically, when he does spawn, he is triggered by killing Goblinstomper (SW named giant).

Comments anyone?

Kollins posted taking this guy down with Pally, Enchanter, Cleric, and yet another. Nowhere did he mention Wizard. Two Wizards or a Wizard and an Enchanter could do this easily. It is a shame the Wizard is so unappreciated. Why get a full party when all you need is one or two wizards to help you out?

This guy spawns in the NW corner of the zone randomly after a cyclic giant has been killed in the SW corner. The three times I've had the fun of killing him, he's followed Goblinstomper and has dropped the belt every time.

Note: the belt isn't Druid usable. I've had Druids offer me platinum out the yin yang for this thing, and they always want me to give them their money back when they see that they can't use it.

And I, being the softy that I am, always do it.

The Grand Cenobite is a cleric, casts smite, which always hits me for aproxomatly 200 hitpoints of damage. Some for 100, some for 300. I've killed him pretty easily as a green con solo twice, and had to recruit some help once when he poped blue. He's never gated (but I think he could, if he wanted to), though he's a major pain in the rear because he can and does heal himself. When fighting the blue GC, I had to have done at least five times more damage than he could survive through, and he constantly casted smite on me and healed himself up.

Yet, he still didn't run out of mana.

Concidering this guy was relativly low blue at 45, I think I should've been able to beat him up pretty easily with mid level MR, decent AC, and my spell and proc list. I didn't go into the fight unprepared. I had full post 55 enchanter buffs on, as well as chloroplast and all the spells from my assorted ranger/druid bag of tricks. After three or four heals, I had to root him, run out of smite distance, and heal up. Of course, he was back to full health when I got back. Now, maybe I was using the wrong tactics, but I could never interupt any of his spells with my own, with kick, or with straight melee.

I wonder why cleric mobs are so hard? It seems like the lower level stuff, like this cenobite, should have it's level upped, but it's power should remain the same. I don't have a problem soloing anything else in his level range, including int casting mobs and the other three wis casting mobs (Druid, Palladin, and Shaman). So why are clerics so damn hard to solo?

Maybe it's because they have twice the melee prowess, hitpoints, AC, and at least 10x the mana regeneration as us poor poor players.

Can you channel through a red con's twice-hasted melee blows, or a red con's full nukes? I can't, but this guy sure could.

In summary: I really hate clerics who aren't on my side.

Anyone have any concrete reasons why cleric NPCs and mobs are 10 times more powerful than clerics of the same level, other than the "EQ is supposed to be a group game" theory? I dig that EQ is very very attenuated to groups, but I think giving mobs this kind of power at this low a level is a bit overkill.

Smite is a level 14 cleric spell which does 80 damage at max bro, you are probably thinking of Wrath which does 200 dmg for my cleric... :)

I do agree that cleric mob melee is way above what I could ever hope to do. But as for channeling ability...I must admit, it sounds reasonable. Once you get close to 30, you are almost never interrupted. I can't speak for other casters because I have only played a cleric. List of stuff I have gated from without being interrupted lvls 24-40: brownie scouts on several occasions, corrupted unicorn, General DVeers goon in overthere, about 20 frogloks at the same time in Upper Guk, and probably a few others that I have forgotten. All of these were hitting me at the time I tried to gate. Also, I get agro in battle and can still get off a heal on myself or a root on the mob most of the time within 2 tries although those mobs are not usually as high level as the ones mentioned with the exception of the frogloks. Verant does twink out the abilities of mobs, but this time, I think players have almost the same amount of ability.

Nice post, but when there's a mob that drops something this nice- seemingly fairly commonly by the stories told here- I'd like to see it hard to kill. Having a limitless supply of these belts off an easy kill at level 35 would be a bad idea, in my eyes.

Simple and unfair rules of EQ.
1. Mobs can hit and cast on you when they cant see you
2. They can hit you through walls, closed doors and cast on you while they are running.
3. Every NPC in EQ has the ability to Track you with a skill that I swear must exceed 1000.
4. All Mobs in EQ are half fish. They can breath underwater for ever.
5. The NPC that is in the water, Under the Boat that you are riding AND is swimming as fast as the boat CAN and WILL beat you to death and you cannot fight back.
6. All Mobs can and will beat you to death while you are in a tunnle, under a mountain and they are on top of the mountain.
7. Mobs do not take Damage from falling.
8. Lava will not kill the Mob, it will kill you.
9. Shaman, Druid and Ranger Mobs can cast Sow Indoors, in Dungeons in Water AND while they are running.
10. Mobs that are Casters have an Endless mana supply.
11. A level 35 Mob that is a Cleric has level 60 Warrior melee skills. They hit as hard as a 60 Warrior and furthermore they dont need a weapon to do it.
12. YOU can't do or have any of the above abilities.

The list goes on and on and on and on.

Yes, NPC's do have those advantages over PC's.. BUT
An NPC will not run until low hp's, it will not run even though out numbered 6 to 1
An NPC doesnt not have the intelligence or creativity of a player.
An NPC doesnt not have uber armour and weapons
Some classes get safe fall and others get lev and EB so players can have some of the abitilies you listed.
A level 35 cleric NPC does NOT melee anything even remotely close to a level 60 warrior EVER not even when buffed by other NPC's or when its a named mob in some nasty dungeon.
And with a high swimming skill and SoW you can swim faster than the boats.
Now, as you are an intelligent and creative human player armed with knowledge of the allowances or cheats the NPC's have im sure you can think of a way around or a course of action you can take to combat all of these advantages.

So, in order to get the Grand Cenobite to spawn I have to run to the Southwest Corner of the zone and kill a giant, then run to the Northwest corner and see if he's up? That sounds a little vague.. what's the PH called? How will I know it's a PH? I see lots of Burinai running around the Northwest corner. How will I know if I'm killing the right one of anything? What Location should I be hunting in? I'm just not seeing anything that makes me think I'm on the right track, but I spent 5 hours trying to slaughter dozens of Giants in the Southwest and run up and kill Burinai's in the Northwest.. seems like I'm not doing it right.

Thanks

Rather than copy and paste the entire cyclic walkthrough here, the above is the url. I've outlined how to make every mob on the Burynai/goblin/giant cycle to spawn, all the rare drops, the locations, and decent tactics.

I hope it works for you. =)

It has something to do with the fact that cleric players have one of the worst melee and the worst nukes (for any sort of offensive caster) to offsent their incredible healing power but when you make an NPC version and combine the healing power with your typical NPC's supernatural channeling and melee power you get a really hard thing to kill. Get an enchanter/cleric/pally with a ranger or a necro, bard or SK and fear kite it.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 14 2001 at 11:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why? One wizard at 35 could possibly solo this thing. An enchanter and a wizard could DEFINATELY take it out... at an even con.
