I can't understand why you all are making such a big deal about this ring? If you're powerful enough to take out the dain, you've got better. What a POS
I realize I'm commenting on an old post that comments on old posts....
But jesus, how stupid are you? When they were fussing over this ring, it was pretty damn awesome. This was one of the best buyable rings in its time, and not that bad compared to the nodrops of the time either. Pull your head out of your PoP and GoD geared *** and read the dates on Velious item posts.
Killed him yesterday in 5 mns with 40 people without any loss among raiders (average level 62). The fight is 'easy' when you got tanks with real aggro weapons. Just keep in mind that main meleers can be banished, which require a perfect tank switching to keep aggro focused on a single guy (if you fail, Dain will slain everyone around in 30 sec). Hit really fast and really hard and is immune to slow. No resist needed for fight either, it's pure melee.
I won this nice ring yesterday, this is really a very nice (and rare) upgrade :-) I only realised afterward it wasn't no drop, making it even more valuable. FYI, our guild killed Dain IV a dozen time and this is only the 2nd time i see the ring dropped.
Actually, the "best" class is whatever class that can wear it. It doesn't offer anything that Clerics need more than Druid, Shaman, Necro, Wizard, Mage or Enchanter need. It would benefit a Necro just the same as a Cleric, just the same as a Druid, etc. etc.
I agree. The best class that can wear it is whoever buys it and can use it. Besides what does it matter, if a necro wants it , a necro can buy it. If a druid wants it a druid can buy it. Necros and shammies are not the only ones who need hps/ mana, but then some people are too ignorant to realize this.
To be honest it would go best to sham / nerco because they can convert HP to mana, but still it is not enough more of a need to say it should only go to them.
And Mages have mod rods, Clerics get aggro, Wizards get aggro from nuking, Chanters from slowing. Each class get atked(can't think of one for a druid unless root breaks =D ) so it's good for all classes. /rant off

all i want to know is where this guy spawns, his lvl, and if hes a caster, warrior, or SK. please someone help me out im kinda new and i dont have enough money to buy items that i really need. if you have any information please e-mail me at NIKON88@prodigy.net Thanx Hephastos Darkfyre Druid of the 25th season
The ring drops off of a level 70 dwarf...he has about 100,000-200,000 hitpoints, and hits from 35-425 dmg, hits EXTREMELY fast, and casts a DD. This guy takes about 15-20 min to kill with 70-80 people. Good luck trying to get the ring...if someone does get it, I would see no reason for them to sell it, more than likley it would go to someone else in the guild that kill the Dain.
P.S. I have helped in killing the Dain, and he is one mean dwarf.
My guild just killed him tonight. Took us 15 minutes with about 40 people. I can't imagine trying to do it with 70-80, the lag would be incredible I would think.
I'd estimate his HP at approx 150k. Aggro is difficult to manage, he does indeed hit hard and fast. Poor FR though. MR seemed high.
He did drop this ring. If it were sold the price would be very high I would think, considering the rarity alone. I was surprised it was droppable at all, frankly. I agree it would be passed down in all liklihood.
I am trying to obtain one of these rings but everything that I have read about Dain doesn't list this ring as a known loot. Is it just a super rare drop or did they just not list it? Anyway, if it does not drop off of Dain, can anyone tell me who it does drop it. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
I believe the name WINTER in this case is relating to a person that has helped with the game in some way. I remember reading a thread that said a certain 1hs item of Winter was named after someone named Winter.
NO flames, I'm only telling you what I read somewhere else.

Alot of those popular D&D itmes you speak of have cheesy names to start with. Don't assume they stole it because they have the same names in the game as some other games. Originality is very low for all games of this genre.

If you just play casually why do you need one? they make these items hard to get to give you a goal to work toward. So the game doen't stagnate and get boreing. my goal is to go to the planes to get all this cool stuff for my druid, my guild is not that uber but our alliance is and we regularly schedual raids to the planes and veeshan. who ever says that uber guilds with hundreds of members controls the planes and nice items, is on crack. I have heard of good teams of players breaking into planes with as few as 6 peoeple, not clearing it mind you but breaking it and not just one spawn. It is posible for you to get these thing you just have to have people to help you. The whole idea behind this game and what verant is trying to ram down out throats is that you need to group to succede.

#Anonymous,
Posted:Jan 29 2001 at 2:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Verant is sticking it to the casual player because there are only basically 2 int items an enchanter has any real chance of getting. Both of these if done well are actually too easy to get, and I am speaking of the gold ear studs from the quest killing Cubert, and the Rodcet Nife Hoop which involves using a mule to kill the Koalindl fish. Other than those 2 items, there is virtually nothing that gives an int boost that is attainable without a strong group in Velious or an Uber group in one of the plains. Where are some middle value int boost items? Ones that aren't as high level as this ring, maybe +1 or +2 int with +5 mana. Ones that a more casual player has a chance at. Ones tht don't end up costing 2 to 20 kpp to be able to buy - casual players will never have that kind of extra pp. Yes, Verant is sticking it to casual players, and especially Enchanters, as pick up groups aren't as good as uber guild groups, and you will never see the kind of loot that you need to trade to acquire the equipment you really need.
Umm, what crack have you been smoking? There are many +Int items available without velious/uber stuff... A few examples (all relatively easy to get yourself or sell for under 1K, prices based on older servers):
Platinum Star Rose Quartz rings : +4 Int, sells for maybe 200pp
Flowing Black Robe : +5 Sta, +3 Int. Sells for a couple hundred, or can be aquired in Najena
Platinum Sapphire Necklace : +7 Str, +7, sells for around 500pp.
Stein of Moggok : +5 Dex +10 Int +25 vsDis +10 HP. Can be purchased for around 200pp, or aquired by a level 12 enchanter willing to put some time into running around the world doing the quest (takes a couple hours if you don't get someone to port you around).
There are MANY more... these were just the first 3 that came to mind. You want mid-range Int items, try looking around the dungeons on Antonica - NOT the new stuff coming from Velious dungeons.
Provided you are responding to the post I think you are, the gentleman actually said there are no +5 intelligence rings other than what comes out of velious, he did not say there's no int gear out there. Just figured I'd point that out as none of the items you quoted were rings, and some of them were of less than +5 intelligence. Of course, you could have been responding to a post my score filter has skipped and as such I do not see it, in qhich case carry on, and ignore this.

Posted:Jan 27 2001 at 1:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i actually agree with the first guy the game is way too much centered around group play why should the casual player who has a real life suffer from not being able to attain some good itemd and to say that casual players do not deserve good items??? the gam should be designed better to accomidate both types of players just because you might play more than then the next person does not make you more deserving than others they should impliment some solo only quests that will test your skills and lvl of expierance and reward you accordingly just my 2 cents worth :)
The Quest he was talking about in the post before is a solo quest. It takes a little time and effort, and can be streched in to many actual days if nessasary. I have several quests started so that when i get my lvl 12 spell Bind Affinity so i can go and do the quest with relative ease. I work 8 hr shifts and clean my house, make my husband dinner and I get to play for about 3 hr a night, but I've managed to aquire so very good and interesting equiptment, and almost 40 pp, still in the bank. Sure those PP will be gone to my next spells, but I've aquired those 40 pp in about 3 days (9 hours of gaming). So really, if you actually try to work for something you can do it.
Sorry about the attitude, but well, he made me mad.
I can take up the other side of the argument. If you play only a fourth of the time I do, why should you get the same equipment I do? It is one of the things that destroyed UO. They geared it to the casual gamer, leaving no challenge for the other gamers. I do not consider myself a powergamer and I am not in any guild, but if I spend more time playing, I do expect to have better equipment. If I only play half an hour per day, I do not expect to reach level 60, raid the planes on a daily basis or have the best possible equipment. I think your perspective is a bit off...
Beranar Necromancer of the 22nd season Bristlebane Server
I am a casual to moderate player. I believe that if they made good items easily accessable to someone that can solo the quest, a whole lot more people would have that item. It throws the rarity off by quite a bit. Think of it like this. It takes you 4 hours to obtain an item by yourself. Now, add 3 more people. It takes 1/4th as long to find that item. Add a guild, and anyone can get their uber weapon in a little under an hour. Scary isn't it?
Well...I seriously doubt any guild can get an uber weapon in under an hour unless they get very lucky. A a guild(non-uber) we camp South Ro for the Ancient Cyclops. Nothing in the zone really causes any serious troubles, and we pretty much destroy anything there. Nonetheless, it is still an entire evening thing(3+hours) to get one ring for someone in the guild. damn fun time though!
I agree. This ring is very nice. The only other 5int ring I know are the Velium player-made ones. And even those aren't made until you have a MASTER skill level of upwards of 200. So why should this ring be obtained by someone who doesn't have Master hunters in their party/guild? I guess what I'm saying is you have to be UBER good in jewelmaking so why not be UBER good in hunting to obtain a ring that rivals?
Too bad that the AC ring is worn on your wrist, huh? (they are BIG, remember) I allready have my jboots but I plan on killing the AC again some time just to use his ring as a normal wrist item. +5 int is not bad at all for the wrist. When I get something to replace it, I can just sell jboots. :) (group with the buyer, find hasten, give him the ring and the rapier and have the buyer give him the gold)
Since everyone else is ranting about the subject. My *@%#&^* is about camp times. I can really understand the grouping/uber guild thing to get good stuff, but what about 10/12/20 hour spawns times. If you're going to make something challanging, make it difficult to kill or obtain. The challange shouldn't be to see if you can stomach sitting around for 12 hours waiting for a mob to pop. And then hoping he has the item. Whats the fun in that?
