Picked one up for my 34 cleric in POK on Stromm... guess how much?? 150pp from a beautiful lady in the guild Dark Omen! my first wis shield! with this for my cleric now, i can finally pass on the shield of the bloodguard i won in ldon to my 30 pally! WOOT! now all i need is a full set of blessed full mithril and i'll be set!! hehehe...
One day I was camping the Ry'Gorr fort with a small group when a guy came to trigger the 8th ring war. In return for borrowing our kill spot, he gave each of us one of the nie drops. Since none of them were usefull to my beastlord, I chose this shield, and started a high elf pally just to use it. Now my pally is my second favorite character. Nice shileld, and nice looking graphic for it too!
The shield is a nice one. it has good solid stats for druid and cleric. (yeah, a shm might want more ac) but the graphic on this is quite nice as well... i have seen them selling for 500 lately as well... when you can find them.
I paid 1500 for my first one for my druid a few months back and got another for a young cleric i started for 700. am still pleased with both.
Ok, now I've been trying to sell this shield on Innorrukk for some time and nobody wants it ( at least for 2.5k). It may have been a great shield at one time. AC12, +5 Wis , +50 mana and nobody wants it. So, now it rots on my Warrior.
I just bought mine for 700pp. The prices have dropped alot on these. Go to the bazaar and see what prices others are selling for. I doubt however that you will ever get 2.5k out of it.
Did they nerf this sheild now? I bought one last night for 500p. But, it only had the 12 AC and +50 manna. Did not see a +5wis on it....will have to relook
I've got one of these babies on the Innoruuk server and I would be more than happy to sell it for 2500pp. If you want it send my Druid Herumph a tell =)
I have prolly helped kill that sob at least 12-15 times hoping to replace my cgs with this baby to no avail. I've rarely seen this item being auctioned it is that rare. Having given up on that one, I finally landed a crystal chitin shield ac20, 9wis, 40 mana from Velks. If you have the means (50 plus minimum on Vazaelle to get a velks group) or the plats (paid 2400 for mine) grab em while you can. And they are also auctioned a lot more than an Oracle shield. Just my 2cp )

I picked one of these up a few days ago while helping another guild complete the ring quest thanks to my ranger partner's exceptional rolling skills! Dropped my CGS like a bad habit.
The wis/mana issue has been beaten to death, even with the changes to 200+ wis points, this is still far superior to the CGS.
This is an incredibly rare piece. It requires a sizable commitment from either a large grp of lvl 50+ friends or your guild to aquire. This certainly adds to it's desirability.
I've never been overly concerned with fashion, function has always been my primary concern but I'm here to tell you, my equipment gets inspected more often that the exotic dancer at you rlocal "gentleman's" club. :) With this and my prophecy scroll, I certainly don't look like every other druid in Norrath. There's something to be said for that!

I was in EC shopping after a killing HGs in Rathe, I've been using the Vanear for sometime but decided i needed to get some Ac. I was shopping for a CGS when a Totemic Helm popped for 700pp, told a guild friend who asked me to get it and exchange it with her low lvl alt in FP. So ran around like a madman for 30 mins exchanging stuff with low lvl alt (i already had a Tomic Helm, so i had to give it to the alt to hold whilst i bought the other one.)spends my last 700pp friend logs Bye Bye..... Up pops one of these shields, I'm broke but outa intrest asks for a PC... 500pp seller said......yes that was 500pp!!!! asks another friend to come all the way from Halas with a loan of 500pp, Seller was very good waiting 40 mins for him to arrive and now i possess one of these in the sale of the century...hehe very happy! btw one of my guildie buddies bought an Artic Wyvern Tunic for just 900pp the other day i was sick....but this makes up for it a bit Lol......hope it don't want to make you cry.
LOL!!! If you think this this is the deal of the century, listen to this. i was Ec trying to buy some nice gear for my druid when I began to ask someone if they had anything. Well not knowing the price of this fine shield, I bought it for 300pp!! Now I here of ppl selling for 2k! well im one happy druid now
This shield also has a lightstone effect in it. Not as bright as a greater lightstone, but just a plain ol' lightstone.
Here's something else to think about: Someone told me at lvl 60, 1 point of Wis/Int pre-200 is 10 mana added to mana pool. At lvl 60 1 point of Wis/Int post-200 is 1 point of mana added to mana pool. If this is true, there is no argument as to which is better, the CGS or Ry'Gorr. It's unlikely, but even if you were at lvl 60 and didn't have 200 Wisdom, the +9 Wis of a CGS would be +90 mana, while Ry'Gorr would be +100 mana. The lower level you get, the greater that gap would increase too. Then take into account lower AC from CGS, unique nice look of Ry'Gorr shield, and there just isn't any argument. Ry'Gorr > CGS all the way.
The info they quoted you was partly wrong even when this post was made, and partly out of date, as of the release of luclin. At lvl 60, 1 wisdom is 12 mana (ll/5), not 10. Also, with the Luclin changes, once you are over 200 wisdom, it is 6 wis, at lvl 60 (lvl/10).
So, for a level 60 with under 200 wis (which shouldn't happen):
CGS 9*12=108mana Ry'gorr (5*12)+50=110mana
So at lvl 60, unless you are over 200 wis, you would gain 2 mana and 2ac from this shield. If you are between 200-255 wis, It improves some.
CGS 9*6=54mana Ry'gorr (5*6)+50=80mana
In this case, you gain 26 mana with this shield.
Once you hit 255 wis, you gain the full 50 mana.
Realistically speaking, its unlikely that one shield vs the other will turn the tide of any battles. The Ry'gorr is nice for it's look, and the mana is nice for people with maxxed wis, although when you reach that point, a shield with resists would be better, although this might be good for experience grind groups, when you aren't being casted upon a lot.
You are paying for the rarity, not some huge stats advantage. CGS is very commonplace, and the price is incredibly low for the quality of the item. Well, and also for the fact it is part of the ring quest. I'm thinking this is worth more as a quest item than for its stats. I guess you could buy it to use, until you get to the 8th ring, as it is slightly better than CGS.

ok, i think we can all agree this shield doesnt look 14k cool, i can understand it being about 3-6k because its rare...but come on, charred guardian shield has 9 wis on it and its soooooo much cheaper, and i know that +50 mana adds a little to it aswell, but i think the price on this is rediculous
I just want to say, for a high level person with over 200 wis in the first place, the minus 4 wis from the CGS will subtract hardly any mana from your total, and the +50 will out weigh the subtraction by far. And also, can we all agree this looks WAY cooler than the CGS? =)
I would prefer the testament of venar cause it is a easy book tha is 10 wis and 10 manna but the 10 wis is soo good its self it is used till the high 40s by most
Ok, being a Cleric I'll admit, this item is damn nice. But when people can get a Charred Guardian Shield dirt cheap, like 400pp, why the HELL would anyone spend 13k on this shield? In my opinion it isn't as good...I'd rather have the 4 extra wis than the 50 extra mana. I would pay 700-800pp max for this thing. Ok flame me with your responses peeps...
Not that I have any reason to care what you prefer but its simply a fact that if you do the math, this shield is just plain better in every respect accept price at any level, even at 60 with wis below 200 (which better not happen), this shield is 2 mana & 2ac better, not to mention looks. The lower you go, the bigger the difference this makes.
Duregar, I must say that I completely agree with you. I have a Charred Guardian Shield. Paid 500pp for it, and if I had to choose between the two shields, I would use the CGS. The two AC? big deal, especially for a druid. In the case of someone already over 200 wis, it may be useful, but that alone drives the price up to 13k? That's craziness!
Widgey Hawkwind 35 Wood Elf Druid Bertoxxulous Clan of the Just
Or get a Shield of Battle. 13AC, 9 WIS, 10 MANA, and you even get 2 STR. Even at 10 mana per one wis, the SoB equals the mana of this shield, has one extra AC, and 2 STR. (The weight is 9.7 for SoB, and 8 for this, so that's pretty even once the STR is taken into account.) SoB goes for around 700. Except for looks, why would you use this instead of the SoB?
Not Flaming... Just suggesting an alternative perspective...
Because if you already have 200 Wisdom from other items this is a awesome item to add an extra 50 mana to your mana pool. An impressive amount for a single item as most +Mana items are only adding generally around 25-35 points. (For those not in the know once you hit 200 Wisdom, or Intelligence for you Int-Casters out there, you begin gaining MUCH less mana from additional Wisdom or Intelligence points. I believe on the order of 1 point of mana per 1 point of Int/Wis over 200 but I could be off on that number.) It also has better AC than the Charred Guardian Shield (2 more to be exact.) and its a vastly more difficult item to get. The CGS Drops off a 100% MR Gnome Clockwork in Sol A (30-35th level CWG Model EXG) that with a 35ish tank or two is an easy kill. Whereas the Ry'gorr Oracle is 45+ (??Anyone got an exact level range for him??) and if all this triggered by 8th Ring Quest stuff is true you're looking at a difficult item to just sit around and camp for like you could with the CGS. Each time you want to get one (Or five?) You need to have someone get to the point where they can do the 8th ring. (Or steal one of the mobs from someone elses 8th Ring quest but I'm not entirely sure they'd be too happy about that.) Hence making it much more rare. (Personally I don't know about the 8th ring stuff yet. Need to do the rings and see what happens.)
Anywho all those things add up to a much more expensive item. (Maybe 13k is a tad excessive but I'd definately pay 6k for one without batting an eye.)

Was very odd to see this item drop in Kael. I was with 2 groups in my guild camping the Gleed area when we took down Gleed he dropped his normal loot and had unusually dropped this shield.
Everyone was amazed to see this since normally it drops off of the Ry'gorr Oracle in EW. Well I'm a very happy druid now since I was the only one interested in it. =)
I was at the fort when a guild started this quest (ring quest). The first to attack the guild was the common orc's in the fort along with the Oracle and Firband the black. They killed all of the orc's in the fort and some of the Common Orc's that spawn from the quest, but shortly after died. They didn’t have near enough ppl. Well among the many dead orc's in the fort was the triggered oracle's corpse ) I invised up and went in and looted the shield and ran like hell. I was in a grp at the time (big mistake). I didn’t want to roll on it, but the grp thought it was the "right" thing to do. Although I didn’t see any of them in there risking there life for the loot ) Another person looted the gloves from FBTB. Well after all of them crying over it I agreed to roll on it (I like to keep a good rep). After I looked up the shield online i wanted to cry ( 13,000 pp. I’m a mage and cant use it anyway but i sure could use the money :P
If the guild would have returned and shouted for the shield, i would have gave it to the proper person.
Note to self: Disband before looting something on a mob that your grp didn’t kill.

IMa lvl 51 necromancer and im looking to help a freind make a shaman... How do i go about geting this shield? whiat ring quest must i do? plz tell me where to fins this.
i have seen the ring quest activated... about 50 guys all lvl 50 surround the ry gorr fort, Kromrif Guards, cents( red to me at 47), eleits, Oracles, all red at 47 and someone in zone said they were all lvl 50 i think... so even if you kill one oracle... you got 50 more badies to take down too
i dunno how to start the quest but its beotch to clean it up
Its a quest for like the 8th ring in a series of ring quests. All you have to do is wait at the orc fort til someone starts this quest, wait for these guys to spawn, and then wait for them to be attacked by the dwarf army (yes, I know its a lot of waiting). Once the two armies are fighting, you can easily find a loan Oracle to pull, and then all you have to do is get it far away from the other group, and beat on it til its dead. Seen it done tons of times. And at level 55 it should be an easy kill, so I'm planning on camping this soon.
In the earily days of Velious there was a lvl 49-50 Oracle spawn to the right coming down the bridge. It was an awsome camp...will say the lvl 50 Cynitha in Velious. Oracle was very easy to kill and heavly camped. NERFED Oracle was moved to the 8th velium ring quest and possible Scarbrow quest. I know someone who got one on the 8th velium ring quest, so do that(hard).
Hi, I'm just your average Troll Shadowknight, big dumb and low on mana. So when I saw this shield I knew I needed it.
That's the problem. With all of these false rumors and strange references to unknown quests, a big dumb troll could get pretty confused. Would some one with this shield or had it PLEASE tell me how EXACTLY to go about getting it. I would be very appreciative of it.
