I am just surprised they didn't make this rogue usable, considering rogues, like other dps type classes, focus heavily on dex, hence, more procs, hate reducer, snare, would definately benefit a rogue as well as any of the classes, I do see the point about warriors not wanting to use this, unless they had something like a BoC with an anger 3 proc to compensate, but still, why compensate as a warrior, who wants the mob as PO's as possible? Well that's just my 2 cents. Don't start flaming or anything, just an observation and don't want to hear BS like well, it's not, just deal with (FYI I am coping just fine). Anyhoot, that's all I wanted to say =)

I am not understanding those of you that say this would be good or bad for a druid. have you forgotten that a drood has ensared as part of their spell package? I think the BL would do good w/ this but also think that a Shaman that is soloing would do good to have this in the ******* too. Just my two coppers worth

I personally dont see a problem with the classes that cant snare using this.
It gives them an extra bit of diversity.
For instance and dont take this as the holy gospel but you group encounters a mob who you know is going to run at 20%.
This mob has hella high HPs and you have adds closeby.
So the Shaman whacks the mob for the proc.
The shaman isnt going to grab the aggro or simply the warrior can swop out the item till it procs at around 30% of the mobs HPs.

understand that its a 21/23, it would be hella good for any of the 3 classes that can use it, - the shaman ( would be a waste on a shaman ), tho maby not the best choice for a ranger, they would probly still out damage this with their BUYABLE featherwoods. tho i could see them meele'ing with it till the proc goes off ( probly slower and longer lasting than their snare spells ) then pulling back to shoot the mob, if soloing. still think all the classes - shaman would put it to good use.

Heh, hey people did you even look at the item's effect? This is the perfect weapon for a beastlord because it procs a snare. Even if your pet can already proc snare through the AA it just reinforces it or lets you and your pet truly double tank on solo attempts...

Yes I do know that pony was referring to the effect/proc on the item, but nonetheless he posted under this item which kind of means he was also referring to an effect which related to an item rather than just the effect in and of itself which could mean a proc off of a mob in the game.

Forgot to add this to my first post, but druid and rangers can already snare so this effect won't have the most effect in their hands, cleric shouldn't really be hitting things at this level even though some do solo with HAMMERS (1hb), the warrior shouldn't have the hate reduction, shaman also commonly uses 1hb and their fighting skills aren't as well sharpened as a beastlords's and let's be realistic, for all classes other than the warrior the snare is the main part of this proc and for the warrior the hate reduction is not a good thing, so please post all you want here, I'll gladly answer it. =)

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but this effect is most likely suited for a beastlord. It will most likely never go to a cleric or a druid -
1: because both of those classes cannot use this item - 2: if any of those classes (druid or cleric in particular) came close to the mobs you'll be fighting by the time you're sufficient level to acquire this item you'll pretty much be beaten to death instantly and you'll be straying from your purpose which will either be to kite, heal (hp heal and cleansing others of magic effects), slow, etc...
Yes, I do know that a shaman can sometimes tank and I do know they do it quite often while soloing, but I could start a whole new discussion if I went into that topic.
And before anyone tries to flame me just know I have played each of the classes that can use this item atleast up to level 56 each and each of the one's you're talking about, I've played druid to 57, ranger to 62, beastlord to 65, cleric to 56, shaman to 56, warrior to 58, all with AAs and I know that as a beastlord snare can really come in handy while running or just pulling/spliting mobs.
bye bye shaman

more stuff to block out utility casters not only are they removing shaman slow usefulness now they are going back into druid and ranger usefullness with more snare items. wonder if we will all just end up playing warriors with an arsonal of procs to effect mobs

bah guess i'm just bitter and tired of shamans getting the shaft just ignore me

This post is completely unnecessary if you consider this item before looking at the Aged Spear of Constriction...

Basically, SOE just updated an old VP item to fit with the new idea of VP being an Elemental equivalent zone.

Thank you for your time.
#Uggliey, Posted: Jul 27 2004 at 10:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) At the level of the game that you can get this, minor utility is of little importance. core function is what matters. Snare isn't a core function last I checked.
RE: bye bye shaman
# Jul 28 2004 at 2:34 AM Rating: Decent
What exactly does core function mean? It keeps mobs from fleeing. It keeps ping pong fights from getting out of hand. It keeps mobs moving slow enough for casters to damage them with spells and not be hit. And at the very least it keeps mob from returning to their spawn point if you have to zone because of adds thereby splitting them. Then again if core means totally useless and defunct then yes snare is not a core function...

Since when have procs become a reliable way of doing anything? even if the usable classes had this in a group the group would still want a snare class if snare is needed. Thats just like saying a pally has a proc heal weapon we don't need a healer...

Personally, I'd punch the warrior who'd use a weapon with anything that decreased hate. Great Ranger weapon though, and cool for a well geared shammy/beastlord who like to randomly melee and look cool. But this seems to be a 100% Ranger weapon, meaning it takes nothing away from any classes. Seeing a Ranger can snare and jolt(decrease hate), it really just saves mana and spell slots for them. Doesn't mean I don't agree with you on other items though.
RE: bye bye shaman

In all honesty, if I ranger decided to use this item on the off chance that it would proc the snare effect and save him/her a little mana instead of snaring and staying out of melee to use archery, I would smack them. At level 65 you should know by now Metrenya, that a ranger with his archery AA's will easily do MUCH more damage staying out of melee than jumping in.

This weapon is useful for those classes that can use it. It has definite utility for the soloing shammy and beastlord but again less so for a Ranger who would be better off casting his snare and bow kiting instead of meleeing in hopes that it might proc the snare before he/she has to shout Ranja down!

And if you haven't noticed Beastlords primary weapons are Hand to hand not range. Beastlords are a melee class, they fight close in with their pet beside them.

Now I do realize that rangers are a melee class also, but at the level when this becomes available they can outdamage just about every other melee class easily with their bow skill and crits.

Why would a Beastlord only melee to "look cool"? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. This isn't just a Ranger weapon. Saying anything is for a certain class only is just plain ******* stupid, unless it's only equippable by one class.
