Killed the fabled VS (took about 20 minutes moloing as 86 BST, so many resists & stuns) and he dropped the gnarled staff so updated pics of stats and wielded

can anyone confirm with me How to get the version you need for the wiz epic staff piece to spawn? Spawn timers/Turn-ins/which version you need to kill/Etc.
I'm told to kill real VS and I did that the other day and only got 2 stones and a bones drop.. from reading all the other posts it looks like he dropped the same things for them too.

Can anyone tell me VS's REAL spawn rate? I must've asked 20 people, and everyone tells me something different. Some say 5 days, some say 4, some 3, some say only 12 hours after you kill VSR, some say 24 hours after VSR is killed. I've observed his spawn (though only for 5 days) and this is what I've seen.
Day 1: 1600 hours, VSR spawns
Day 2: 1600 hours, VSR still up
Day 3: 1600 hours, VSR still up
(note that I check every 5 hours to see if this is correct, but I'd rather not post a huge list of every time I checked.)
Day 3: 1900 hours, Venril Sathir (will the real VS please stand up?) is up and noone else in zone but my baby rogue spy.
Day 4: 0500 hours, VS is no longer there, suspect level 70 time geared plat seller who has his spawn timed
Day 5: 0800 hours, VSR is respawned
From this data I can conclude that VSR spawns 12-24 hours after VS is killed (this, I already knew and everyone agreed.) I can also conclude that VS will in fact spawn if VSR is up, he'll just despawn VSR when the real deal shows up. What I HAVEN'T been able to conclude is if there is a *set* spawn timer on VS for after VS is killed, and if killing VSR changes VS's spawn time at all.

Caught him up a while ago. Simply leveled up a vah shir rogue to 5 (for sneak/hide+safe fall) and brought it to VS's room. Checked in every few hours, and about 34 hours after after the above post he was up. First tried to see if a level 70 time geared necro buddy of mine could solo it, but only got it to about 65% before pet was dead and he had to FD. Then decided to overkill it, by using 2 70 Necro, 1 70 Druid, 1 68 Cleric and me (53 Wiz at the time.) Druid tanked through the whole fight and never dropped below 80% health. Necro pets did some good DPS and the cleric barely had to cast anything at all ;) Once VS was at about 70% I unloaded my entire mana bar on him casting lures and he dropped extremely fast, though everyone else had some trouble getting their spells to stick on him. Walked away with my gnarled staff, the +15int gloves (because noone else wanted them) and one of the necros walked away with the pally greaves. Couple weeks later after killing Phinny 4 times, and then leading a full group of 65+ to PoFear I now wield my Staff of the Four :) Fun quest, and WELL worth the clicky effect of a free 800hp rune, and +3 mana regen :) And the stats aren't bad either ;)

I have the Golem Staff/Note and Phinny's staff. Could I MQ the last part with Arantir if a guildie has the Gnarled Staff, or will he eat it? I know the Phinny Staff can be MQ'd with the Golem Staff/Note and Gnarled Staff, but I dont know if it works any other way...
can be Mqed i accidently turned in items wrong and now my druid has a wiz epic =)

No it can't be MQ'd I tried earlier this week and Sony decied to ***** us and not let people get mq's of epic stuff, so now I gottta wait forever for VS to be up. Do anybody know his spawn time?

As of summer '05 it could. I never saw VS up after 3 weeks and decided my time would be better spent ooc'ing in pok for an MQ. Make sure you invis after you open the trade window so you con indifferent.

This can be done, I did it around Feburary 20th, 06. Actually did a double mq, I handed in Phinnys staff, another person handed in VS staff, and then the wizzy turned in the final staff and got the reward for it.
Dropped on Tarew Marr 18th August 2004, along with the INT caster gaunts. Unfortunately rotted :/

I got the blue staff off phinny my frist try but Ive been killing phinny for a bard friend. 3 more kills no blue staff so far 1/4 so I probably just got lucky
VS is not the hardest phinny definiteley is. a fellow wizzy of mine did him 27 times and when he ahd planned to go after phinny anotehr guild swept in earlier killed phinny and he dropped it and my friend got stuck with 13 more kills b4 he got it. luckily i got mine after only 2 kills.. VS took me 6 and i got BG on first fear raid.
I am convinced that Verant has upped the drop rate on Phinny. I got my staff after killing him twice, and indeed, according to a recent post under Phinny by someone who killed him helping others a huge number of times, he drops the staff about half the time now.

Well I really lucked out today, iv already done the quest up to the staves so im leveling and working on guildraids alot. Well i was attempting to find a group in KC when a single group of Endorian guildies showed up to take down VS... which they did in short order. Took them about 10-15 min to work their way to VS and take him out. Luckily they didnt have any wizzies w/ them and offered to let me loot the staff. Thanks Endorian

My guild has done Phinny many times, but the difference is that we've had very good luck. We did it once, and it dropped for our highest wizzy. They killed him for other epics, and soon had another drop, but no wizzies with them so it will be multiquested when another wizzy is ready to finish their epic. Within a week, another dropped for us, but again no wizzies around. Luckily enough however, we have 3 51+ wizzies and 3 staffs. It is just getting the other 2 staffs for us that we need to work on, but I am in no rush for my own. We have done alot of epics lately and taking a break for a few weeks to exp more. I think the MQ'able Wiz epic is an "EQ Urban Legend."
Would you mind explaining how you're going to MQ the staffs? Arantor (in Halas) gives you a sealed box that you (the wiz) must place all 3 staffs to give to Solomon for your wiz epic.
The wizard needs the staffs, and you can't MQ them to another player. You have to have the 3 staffs in the box to give to Solomon, otherwise you get nada, and waste a lot of camping time.
Perhaps at one time this was MQ'able. It's not anymore to my knowledge.
All you have probably done is deprive a Wizard from getting the staff when you loot it. There may not be another wiz in Kedge if Phinny drops it. There will almost always be one in KC. If the wiz staffs drop, don't loot it. Find a Wiz to loot it instead.

Apparently you haven't done much research on this topic Callawayn, otherwise you would realize that you have no idea what you're talking about.

He is actually pretty easy once you get used to the method of how to kill him. Just got my Blue Crystal Staff last night after my 6th kill. Once I turn these staffs in, I have full intent on getting all three staffs over again for thier resists. Very nice items.

His body was almost as gnarled as this staff! But he is quiet now, and always sleeping. My mom says the bone sticking out of his leg is completely normal, but, i think she is trying to trick me! She also says that the fact thnat his ear is twice the size of his head is a good sign. What should i do?

No this is not the hardest part, the hardest part is phinny who drops his staff about once every 15 kills, as oposed to VS who drops it fairly regularly. Least thats been my expierence. My 2cp

aye, agreed. a fellow wizard killed phinny (probably a record) a total of 67 times before she got her staff....

They changed the drop rate of Phinny. I have 66 kills and have not seen the staff drop. I gave up about 18 months ago though and went to a cleric lol.
Got mine this morning. Second time killing him.... What an odd droppage
I am told and have found that the staff drops 1 in 4 kills now. I was keeping track of the kills about 5 months ago and many have said they upped the drop rate on a patch so I checked and it is indeed higher now. Now it's not even that uncommon for the staff to drop multiple times in a row but it would still be rare. All I can say is it's about time, for something as over camped as Phinny sometimes is by the damn insomniac uber guilds it's nice to give the common wizard a greater chance to get it on 1 kill.

There is a good chance I will be getting this staff first. Due to its common drop rate, and the fact that VS is rather easy (I think he's easier than the golem, or rather all that's involved in dropping the golem), I may get this well before being done with my epic. In which case, I will definitely be weilding it... Int: +15 Magic Resist: +25 Cold Resist: +20 HP: +15 Mana: +45 Wow, thanks, I'll take that.

Its odd how different people have such different opinions on this epic. I got the golem in fear the day after I decided to start my epic, I zoned in to find that a guild had cleared PoFear 90% of zone was dead. The BG happened to be up and not another single mob near him anywhere. I sat in Pofear bout an hour asking around for help to kill him, when a random group zones in that is going after the enchanter piece. they help me kill the golem. Then I run straight from Fear to kedge, no phinny, so I run my 70 sk over so I can 2 box him and be ready when he does spawn. I camped both characters there and went to run some errands, signed back on about 2 hours later and BAM, phinny is up. Pull him and kill him with the sk, and staff dropped on my first kill. My problem now is VS (that alot of people on here say is the easy part). Its really tough to catch him up, and even if I did, I could not duo him. I tried about 2 weeks ago before I even started my epic, and the sk went to a 20 minute stalemate with him. He could not kill the sk with infusion up, I resisted every lifetap, and his hits are gimp, but with his regen I could not get him below 90%. So I guess I am now looking to buy a MQ of the VS staff on Tunare server.
Yes, the damage/delay is 10/30.
