u need to be 35+ and have grp with u, same for all ivy quests, i tried to do this at 30 without a success
done in the low mid 20's

I did most of the ivy Etched quests in the low/mid twenties. If I needed help killing a mob, I just shouted out for help and 80 percent of the time someone volenteered. But then I'm on the most friendly server out there. Luclin rules.

Its been my experience as well that many/most of the Ivy Etched quests can be done in your 20's or low 30's as well. Ask for help killing mobs or wait for others to do so, the runes for the quests are no-drop and useless to non-Rangers so people are happy to let you loot them.

The only real issue is being able to afford the gems required for each quest. In your 20's the price of the gems are a bit steep.

Good luck.

I agree with Golyen. I was about lvl 24 when I did a recon of Everfrost to check out Redwind. I found him in the middle of a fight with some dude who promptly offered me the rune after he killed him. It seems like most people will be nice if you're polite & don't bug them; I try to be :)

Twinking
# Aug 20 2001 at 12:24 PM Rating: Default
What’s wrong with it? Well as I said in the first place a little twink is not that bad. I think most a higher level nice guys give new players something out of kindness.. But for me, I think it ruins the game when low level player are given or pass on equipment not meant for their level. I think the answer is this. Many high level items imbued with magical effects “prco” at a certain level. Using Ivy Etched Armor as one example, why not have the modifiers “proc” when you get near the level need to honestly quest the item “with that character.” This way you can play dress up without being dishonest about who the character is and what they have accomplished. Twinking to an extreme just creates an environment in which learning the game is secondary to trying to level and equip as quickly as possible. I understand the idea of many who feel “my other character earned it so why not pass it on?” To me it undermines the sprit of the game, where each character as a life of his/her own. And as I say, pass it on if the attributes have a “proc” level.

well, i have no probs with twinking per se, but there is another negative side effect that should be pointed out. a lvl 50+ that twinks out they're newbie char will thus make that char much more powerful, and therefore much more desirable in groups. so the effect is this: the more saturated the server becomes with twinks, the less opportunity there is for non-twinks to join groups and advance themselves because twinks will be the "first picks". i don't believe any server, not even bristlebane ;^), has gotten to that point yet, but there is definitely the potential.

otherwise, it is my belief that higher lvl chars have earned the right to pass whatever items they want to whoever they want. and hell, if you're brand new and have managed to scrap enough pp to buy an fbss at lvl 10, then by the gods, you've earned the right to that as well!

point is: have fun, and let others do the same.

My Problem with twinking is not that "You have better stuff than me" Its the Uber Twinked Level 5s that go into an area that they can't handle and pull train after train after train. Sure, they can take single mobs and get Sweet Exp. But they get in over their heads and clear areas people are camping and drag half the zone to where people are trying to med and heal. This is the part that "isnt fair". Twink all you want! Its fine with me. But dont make my gaming a nightmare trying to do to much to fast.

Come back and say that when you got to lvl 50+.

When you start a new char when your main is lvl 20 or 30, sure, dont twink it. But when you have gotten to the lvl when getting stuff is easy and you have money to spare its stupid to have a low lvl character with crap equipment and no cash for spells when you DO have good equipment to spare for that class on another character.

Besides. My characters has lives of their own, with older family members, relatives or just very very good friends (played by me) that may pass items or cash along. I do it in RL why not in EQ?

People who hate twinking are just jealous because they can't do it. I mean, if you werent jealous why do you bother? The fact that MY ranger twink has better equipment than your main ranger doesn't make your ranger's equipment worse than it was before I twinked mine... My twinks equipment shouldnt really matter to you other than that you may be well.. jealous of it.

P.S.
My ranger twinks equipment happen to suck, but in theory.. :)

Haha - Sandortien Troll Wizard. Lol ..... wizard.
I want a troll wizard. Forget that. He has provided the best arguement for twinking I ever heard. Kudos to you. Play the game however you want. Have lots of fun. My main in a 27th level ranger. I will quest this stuff when I can. One day I may pass it on....who knows. Either way I will Have fun. By the way someone twinked my brand spanking new level 1 dwarf paladin on Tallon Zek with a bullsmasher. I was killing mobs so fast I dinged to level 5 in about 1.5 hours. It was so fun I was just laughing maniacally at my comp screen. Bam Bam Bam Dead Level.

I have to agree here.

I have 3 characters, a level 12 mage, a level 17 ranger and a level 18 druid. I don't have a problem with a player giving one of his alts any equipment that can be used. Just like I don't have a problem that one day someone handed me 100pp to my druid at level 4, I did not ask for it, it was jsut handed to me. (Thanks again for whomever did that by the way.)

I have a problem with the newbie logging on with a level 1 and shouting the GFay "Can someone twink me". Begging for it, I believe is unacceptable, but if you've worked for it, why not give it to yourself, or to a friend who you're just helping or even to the newbie stranger who may not even know the value of it, just to be friendly.

I think the people who hate twinking are the ones who do not have the ability to twink themselves in any fashion and are jealous of those who can or do twink. I think it boils down to a roleplaying aspect. How did you you get it, did a friend of yours hand it to you? Maybe it was an heirloom passed down from your grandfather who happened to be a powerful ranger or maybe your guild helped you get it when you were only level 12 of maybe some passing stranger handed it to you to be nice....

PS - Then again, this really should be about the item, not a forum debatting twinking.

Personally, I will not give anything to anyone who asks for handouts. I play a druid and a warrior. With my druid, I sow and buff those around me when mana permits without being asked. When someone needs one that I have over looked, it doesnt bother me for them to ask, but I am anon to keep from being pestered for ports and sow and heal from across a zone. If i see someone low on hp, trust me, I will sit and med to heal you if i do not have the mana... but I will probably not go heal the person yelling to zone every five minutes.. need heal at zone, for obvious reasons.

With my warrior, I keep all my mid lvl weapon loot and bronze and such and give to those fighting in newbie land. These are the ones who are not at the bank begging but trying hard to learn and have fun.
If I group with someone who impresses me with their character on one of my low lvl alts, I will log on a higher lvl and either buff them as much as possible or give them a very nice item as i can.

Twinking is a personal decision. There are many types of people you will meet in this world and others.. some have nicer stuff than you. Take pride if you earned the ring on your hand, but do not hold it against someone who came across a box of gems and has a nice one as well.

Fact is that most twinks are short time chrs that are deleted after around lvl 15. High levels are not as fun as lower levels, depending on how long you have to play. So to break the monotony, some give a lvl 1 the stuff off their lvl 50 and get revenge on things that killed them so easily when they were little... nothing wrong with that. hehe.

Sorry off topic. Yes, since the expansions, most quest armor is replaced by the time you would have won it originally, so is many times handed down to lower lvls. Ivy etched is an example. )

soop, i love your post, i feel the same way about helping out newbies. i will gladly give out buffs, heals and SoW to the newbies fighting and working hard for their levels, i even give weapons and PP. But i will not give anything to someone begging for cash or weapons, my standard reply is " i just spent all my money on new spells" or " i just gave all my extra stuff to my alt". if someone hails me and asks for a SoW "please" i will give it no charge. i have even turned down donations. This is a social game and RL rules do apply, we dont mind helping out our fellow man but most of us can't stand it when someone asks for something for nothing.

Twinking...
# Aug 18 2001 at 5:52 PM Rating: Good
Don't see anthing wrong with twinking, people will complain it's not fair, you didn't earn it.. well one of your alter chars earned it but might not have been able to use it n' didn't wanna to throw it away or sell it cause it was nice or not worth selling according to your level, so in fact YOU did earn it. Games are about having fun, n' if a person enjoys using their higher level character to play dress up with a lower level one, so what.
Ivy etched should be level specific
# Aug 13 2001 at 1:37 PM Rating: Default
It’s just my opinion but frankly the folks at Varant should make certain items lvl specific and put and end to the excessive twinking that goes on right now. Don’t get me wrong I don’t have problem with a little twink, however seeing a level 9 Ranger wearing Ivy Etched Armor is ridiculous, level 25 no problem but anything lower than that diminishes the game. I don’t think it would be that hard to put in place a system where by you can bank certain items but cannot use until you attain a certain level, in the case of the Ivy Etched armor make it 25 or so.

Okay one day I was bored so I decided to get high levels to help me get the ivy. I had like 350pp to waste on the rubies, so I went to Kelethin and bought them first (They're on a merchant on the same platform as the Jewel shop in kelethin, make sure they're only named "Ruby", not "Star ruby") The rubies only costed me like 289pp for both. Next I was off to Lfay, as soon as I entered I /ooc'd anyone killing thistle? I got a response. The person killing thistle was a druid just messin around so she let me loot the Rune of Ivy (no right side or anything on it, just named that.) Next was the hardest part of the quest. I had to hire a level 56 cause no one else would help me. I helped kill Meldrath and his pet, which was fairly simple due to the level 56. I had all 3 components (2 rubies, 1 rune of ivy, and the skull of meldrath)(btw, there is a skull on the floor in the room meldrath spawns THIS IS NOT HIS SKULL, you have to kill him) Off to kithicor. Remember to give all the components not stacked, so all 4 slots are filled. (1 rubie in 2 of the slots). The ranger chick will give you the ivy etched tunic after she says "Hmm.. aren't you missing something?" But she gives you it. The tunic is neat but now I need the leggings, I'll have to wait a few more levels for those. BTW, I was bored so I decided to write how I got my tunic.

Umm could a lvl 12 ranger wear the ivy etched tunic?
RE: ivy etched tunic
# Jun 11 2001 at 3:24 PM Rating: Default
Any ranger can wear it, you just have to be able to buy or quest it. :-) It is unlikely you will be able to quest it at 12, though - getting the rubies is easy, as is the skull (go to mino caves and give a shout to see if anybody is hunting Meldrath, every time I've been there, there's been uber-levels hunting the Mino Hero and they've been perfectly willing to let me take Meldrath's skull if I needed it, since it is Nodrop and not good for anything else to my knowledge); it's getting the Rune of Ivy off Thistle that is difficult (but not impossible).

If you do get all the items, and you already own/wear an ivy tunic, make sure you take off your tunic and let somebody else you trust hold it, because the tunic is Lore, and if you turn in the pieces, you will be out almost 300pp and no tunic to show for it. :-)
Got it...

I was wondering if the Rune from Thistle Underbrush actaully said 'Right side' on it. I have a rune from Thistle and Meldraths head. I was wondering also where to buy the rubies.

To see which rune of ivy you have, you need to have someone cast identify on you while you have the rune on your cursor. Rubies can be bought from gem vendors in many cities.

Ivy Etched versus Mithril Breast Plate
# May 13 2001 at 5:49 AM Rating: Default
I've been having a debate on whether a Mithril Breast Plate with 17 ac, 15 agility, and 30 hitpoints is actually better then the Ivy Etched Tunic with 19 ac, 3 str, 3 wis, and 30 hitpoints. Rangers always need better ac, str, and wis due to the fact they are a hybrid class and are usually lacking on one of their requirements. I know that agility translates into ac and helps with dodge, parry, etc. Any thoughts on this? I won't even bother to ask the question of the mana vs. hitpoints as far as the Ry'gorr Battle Mail is concerned.
RE: Ivy Etched versus Mithril Breast Plate

Just a quick reminder.....Rangers can't wear a Mithril BP, so there really isnt anything to compare
Take A Look
# May 22 2001 at 10:32 AM Rating: Default
You better take another look at the Mith BP buddy...the reason its popular because its one of the few that rangers are able to wear at an early level. To answer the question though...I'd recommend the BP if you tend to be the tank of the groups and/or you don't have at least 135 AGI. If you just tend to dish out damage along side a tank, then the Tunic, cause of the STR which increases your ATK.

I did the quest with my Mage at 35 the rune is fairly easy Just let the pet root and keep it healed The skull off Meldrath is harder Take a druid and pull him out of the mines Kill him fast he has some mean DOTs and since people are always killing Minos the hero may spawn and join in

gave her
1)Skull of meldrath (from Steamfont);
2) Right side of the rune of ivy (from brownie named Thistle Underbrush in Lesser Faydark and
3) 2 rubies.

And got absolutely nothing, any clue as to why?

This one is not that difficult actually. I was able to get the skull of meldrath by going to Steamfont mountain and asking if anyone was killing Meldrathe. It took several times of going here but I finally found a lvl 50 druid who was getting a bit of revenge on him. The druid gladly allowed me to loot the skull of meldrathe. Also many druids hunt Thistle for the Ivy braided Cord (a decent wisdom item for the shoulder slot) and will also allow you to loot that. So just go to Lesserfay and ask if anyone is killing Thistle and would they mind if you loot the Rune. After that comes the hardest part at an early lvl. Buying the 2 rubies. I think they ran me around 150 plats each. You could just buy it for 600-800 plats as well. I actually saw it going for 400 plats one time but only had 310 :-( You could complete quest easily by lvl 10-20 if you can get the plats & find nice players who allow you to loot the skull and rune.
