Classes: The Bard

Bards - the jack of all trades. Each level is a new song and a new way to play. Handy with a weapon and able to wear decent armor, bards can hold their own in a fight. Plus, the ability to twist two to three songs without using mana gives the bard a magical ability like no other class.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the bard? Can they solo, and if so how? How should they best contribute to the group? What is the best strategy to develop your bard? What skills and songs are the most important for you to master? What equipment should you be trying to get for your bard.

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the bard and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Hiya,

Just made a bard last night, got him up to level 14 by just hitting everthing I see. But as for playing a bard, I'm lost! I have been tinkering around with my heal song and my DD song. Still haven't kited yet, to afraid maybe. One thing I hate about bard is, you have to throw your weapon in inventory to hold instrument (which only can be played in secondary). Are instrument only used for health, kiting? I don't see any other use for them. I REALLY need help getting my bard going on the levels. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

About the only instruments you are going to use frequently are your stringed and your percussion. During fights, while soloing, you are going to use weapons. You can still use and twist songs. They just won't be as effective as when you have the weapon equipped. Some songs dont need instruments anyway. At level 14 I was twisting hymn of restoration, jonathan's whistling warsong, chant of battle. I kept a weapon in my main and a shield in my off hand. When I hit 17 I put a weapon in both hands. If I got in over my head I would swap out the weapons for my drum and kick in selo's accelerando. Twisting that with hymn of restoration while running allowed my to heal while not getting hit. When HP was high enough I would swap back to weapons and reengage my target.

Once you get Denons Disruptive Dischord you can try an instrument twist. I found it made little difference in my damage output. Load up your loot and start chords of dissonance. When the first pulse of that hits switch your lute for a horn and play Denons. When the first pulse of that hits change back to the lute. Play hymn of restoration (you need to heal yourself). Then start CoD, horn,DDD,lute,HoR, back to CoD, etc.
