#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 16 2002 at 4:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeesh! Why I'm so bent on this guy is that he's my dream weapon! I wanna know if he is a sonic wolf? And plz! If your on the Xev server, plz send me a tell notifying that you can give me a Torment! Note that at a early lvl, I ported to Gfay. I can meet at the Nexus or SH, but not HSM or SWT!

I camped some Hollowshade rares last night, with this item as my main target. I culled the wolves on the hill for about an hour, then Curfang popped. He dropped this the first time, and I moved on.

For the difficulty involved (just patience) this is a great item. I'm glad I didn't shell out for an Idol of Thorned or Goranga Idol. Both of these are better, but this has resists, and was free.
Loc of spawn

When he spawned for me he popped at 790, -1217. Had the Slightly Chewed Ring :-(

*edit* 4 times around the same area, 4 rings. Is the heart a rare spawn?
*edit 2* He definitely is not on a regular spawn. Saw 2 in half and hour. Went 4 hours between spawns. STILL no heart!
*edit 3* OK, after 6 rings and 3 daggers, finally dropped a heart.

This loc is accurate. I went last night to this spot which is on a hillside. I proceeded to kill all sonic wolves, wolflings, pups, etc. While fighting one at this exact location Curfang spawned right on top of me after about 45 minutes. Unfortunately he had the ring and I was after the heart. After another 45 minutes or so he spawned again and this time he dropped the heart. There were wolves spawning about every 30 to 60 seconds and there seem to be about 5 different spawn locations all on this hillside... all close together. I believe they are all on the same spawn cycle just slightly different locations. Either way, just go to this spot and kill wolves till you get him. Only took me an hour and a half.

Heres some info for you people... THis guy spawned on me while i was trying to get my parts for the beastlord wolf bane weapon. He conec yellow to me at lvl 24 and i almost kileed him. He had about 10 percent health left. So i think its possible to kill this with a beastlord at lvl 26 at least. I mainly lost the fight due to 3 fizzles on my pet healing spell... He hits for 74 dmg maximun too.

i was there hunting jawbones for my bard, a rogue was there lookin for blood, he sent a tell to me sayin curfang had popped and we took him down, dropped the heart first time, i kept it and gave him my fetish of the agile, then he sends another tell he popped again, i got the ring, then he sends another tell he popped again this time i gave the dagger to thr rogue, all in about an hour it was a pretty good bonus for me, considering i was there for the jawbones 8).

PS. curfang is a lot easier than dirtchomp and gorehorn the other named i ran into in the zone, 44 sk at the time

Curfang Spawn Point
# Jan 05 2002 at 10:37 PM Rating: Excellent
If you follow the path from Shar Vahl into Hollowshade Moor, you will eventually see the first bridge. Just before you reach the first bridge, take off at about a 45 degree angle to the left of it and cross the river and go up the hill until you see a cluster of rocks. A sonic wolf of some sort will usually spawn in that vacinity in about 30 second intervals after you kill one. Keep killing the sonic wolves and Curfang will eventually appear. At the very top of this hill, you should be able to see the second bridge but don't go to the second bridge. If you do, you went way too far. Stay at the top of the hill looking down toward the stream you crossed earlier and kill the spawns.

His 3 drops are: Curfang's Heart (noted above)
Slightly Chewed Ring (STR +4, INT +4, Mana +10)
Curfang's Torment (Dagger: Piercing, 12 / 31)

All but the dagger are no drop items. On average, Curfang will spawn once every 30 min. (sometimes sooner...sometimes a little later) if you constantly kill sonic wolves in that area.

Also, Curfang cons green to me as a 45 Monk.

Hope that helps.

It should be noted that the Slightly Chewed Ring provides 4 AC in addition to the stats mentioned above.

Curfang coned green to my (untwinded) 40 monk - actually lower than some of the sonic wolves who spawn on the hill, who are sometimes (rarely) low blue. The low blue wolves could reduce my health by 2 to 2.5 bubbles (I wasn't using ID because of the lag, HSM wasn't intended for a 400 Mhz PC) but Curfang is less formidable.

*Edit* Got the heart after killing Curfang the 2nd time (got ring first time)

Curfang

Curfang was a pretty steady spawn near the bridge where the two paths connect. The place is called curfang hill...There were 3 of us about level 27 and he conned either even or yellow. He dropped a ring that was ok and the heart twice after about 5 hrs. Seemed to spawn pretty regularly down at the river.

where does curfang spawn ?
i killed the owlbear and sonic wolf caves for hours... nothing

He spawns between the rivers, not in the Sonic Wolf Cave. My roommate and I have killed him three times, got the heart twice and the spear once.

Finally I have a ranged slot AC item.

My monk took him out at 32nd with very little trouble. Maybe I got real lucky?
Range Items
# Dec 07 2001 at 8:02 AM Rating: Default
About time Melee types actually get a choice in selecting a range slot item with AC... Pretty much limited to Kerran Toy, Medicine Totem, or Idol of the Thorned until now (Excluding dragon/god/etc drops). There's a couple SoV items that I've omitted, merely because I can't remember their names (Thunder Runed war spear? Steel something tactics something...)

Anyways, big thumbs up on all these new range+ac items popping up.

I'd have to agree with you there. At 45 as a Ranger, I'm still swithing between my Kerran Toy and my Runed Bone Fork when resists are needed.

Just casually browsing the new items, I've seen at least 2 or 3 things better than the Kerran Toy. The Bear Brain that gives a +% to Meditate AND some AC and WIS, for example, looks very cool. Its also LORE and NODROP to discourage blatant farming. Good job, VI.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 07 2001 at 12:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i always made fun of the people who posted just to say that they had the 1st post...but HEY FIRST POST! Actually this itemis pretty cool, i should get one of these and get rid of my totem of the warrior spirit.
